DVD-RAM is a rewriteable dvd disk, similar to +RW and -RW, but it will only play back in dvd-ram compatible players unlike +RW and -RW which play back in most dvd players. They do have some benefits over the RW types - they are more robust, and some dvd recorders allow you to do more editing on the ram disks than RW types. I use them to transfer recordings from my dvd-recorder to my pc and they are great for this.

On my Panasonic recorder DVD RAM disks can also be used to "pause" live TV. In other words you set the machine off recording and can then start playing back from the begining while continuing to record.

Handy if you need to take a "comfort break" in the middle of something you really can't bear to miss

DVDram discs can be re-written to up to 10,000 times I believe.......They really are more durable and much better if only they'd become the dvd recording standard!

And, unlike most of the +/- formats, you can often just pull the MPEG2 straight off the disc - at least my JVC decks write it as such. Most modern PCs can at least read -RAM.

Thanks to everyone, you see I am looking to buy a dvd recorder to replace my Liteon which broke after 8 months. The Liteon had a hard drive but due to limited space I need a dvd recorder that is no more than 24cm depth. Samsung seem to be the only one which fits the bill. I need this dvd to record cctv, I used to do this on the hard drive of the Liteon but as I cannot seem to find one small enough in size I thought I would go with the Samsung machine with dual layer, you see it is situated in my bedroom and we sometimes record telly or watch a dvd on it. Does anybody else have any suggestions of what to do.

This is a 50watt RMS per channel amp into 8 ohm speakers. There should be no problem with correctly rated speakers. I have one of these amps and the OPerating Instructions if you need to know anything
