BT Vision or Top Up TV
Prob been asked before, but wanted to ask users who have experience of both platforms to put their neck on the line for their recommendation of which Freeview-based system to go for.

TUTV isn't a Freeview system. It offers additional programming that Freeview does not. For example UKTV Gold.
BT vision does not offer those additional channels. In addition to FreeView it offers VoD. For examples a selection of movies and old TV each month plus some other new VoD stuff. |

I think in all fairness both platforms are very good, both do similar things.
only drawback of btvision is it relies heavily on a 4mb broadband line with it being a bt one. topup uses the airwaves so that isnt a requirement. bt has a good selection of content but on a pay as you view basis, and topup is monthly, and you get alot of the content downlaoded for you it also gives you the chance to experiment with shows unlike bt where ud ahve to pay for it in advance. bt has more movies and overall content, but topups sport content is getting better, eurosport downloads, and setanta is currently running as well. upto you really but i reckon tutv is safest bet for now, box seems more stable than bt visions box. |

I have BTVision and TopUpTV.
There is pros and cons to both systems. Top Up TV is pretty much plug and play. You connect it to your aerial then connect it to your TV and as long as you have a viewing card its away. UKTV Gold is the only streamed channel now but for how long it will last is another question. For £9.99 you get downloads from Living, Paramount Comedy, Nickelodoen, British Eurosport (Starts 25th July), Cartoon Network 1+2, TCM, Hallmark etc. and for an additional £5 a month you can subscribe to PictureBox movie service which downloads 1 movie from Universal pictures a night (see www.picturebox.info for whats on and when!). Picturebox is a good idea but repeat quite a lot so i discontinued it as i didnt use it much , but its still good value if your into it!! The box is now quite stable for TUTV, is didnt start that way, but it is very stable for TUTV downloads for recording your own selection from Freeview. Now BT Vision, whislt i am new to it, I can see it potential. My partner wont live it alone. We are on the £14 a month which gives TV, Music videos, concerts, Documentaries, 4onDemand, HBO all on demand at anytime we want to watch. Please dont expect the new cinema releases like Sky box office as it has reached that yet. But good nonetheless. It has a lot more to offer than TUTV but programming is not as recent as TUTV. So it you want your fix of Scrubs, Boston Legal etc TUTV is better. If your not, then BT Vision is very good. Sport: TUTV offer Setanta sports for £9.99 a month at this moment in time. Also Eurosport will be downloading to TUTV+ boxes after 25th july. BT Vision though will have Setanta Sports and also BTVision sports for only £12 a month. This will have ALL Premiership matches from the UK either broadcast live with Setanta Sports (46 matches per season) or via BT Vision Sport on demand after 10pm the day of kick off for the remainder of the matches. So like me, it work when its live, i could go home and watch it when i feel like it when i come home (as long as nobody tells me the scores! LOL) The BTVision box seems quite stable but does every now and again reset itself, but mainly at night, Also to have BTVision you will require BT Broadband with a minimum speed of 4MB download. I hope this helps any more question or if you need screen shots, let me know, we are here to help! alexdn32 |

Fantastic support and advice. I'm tempted to go with TUTV...but still haven't completely decided. Will keep you posted.

I know this is an old thread but it has been really useful for me - currently deciding over Top Up TV or BT Vision.
Really just for the Serie A football on ESPN! Leaning towards Top UP TV I think.... Thanks again everyone! |

I've had my BTV box since January and have had no problems whatsover. No missed recordings and never been forced to re-boot. BT Vision is far more superior. I wouldn't recommend TUTV to my worst enemy! |

TUTV is a bit pricey for what it offers, but if the box holds out then it should be a more reliable system as it only depends on terrestrial to get the content. I did like TUTV when I had it, the only thing that let it down was the box and lack of choice. |
