Ok guys, i need some advice. My current fat 32" tv has just blown so i need a new flat screen. I've narrowed it down to these two, can anyone give me their recommendations on which is the best one or which one they would buy. Also, which shops/stores would you purchase them from?

Thanks for your help.

Personally I've never rated Pioneer, and the few flat screens TV's I've seen have all looked pretty poor - whereas the few Panasonics I've seen have all looked really good. These were all on Sky HD.

So I would suggest the Panasonic, who are a MUCH higher rated manufacturer in any case.

We have a Panasonic and it is excellent with Sky HD.

When this began last year the Pioneer was creating reports of HDMI problems and for months there was a mammoth thread on AV Forums about this issue (still there, I think, if you look). It effected Pioneer far more than other sets.

This may have been fixed by now, but check it out if Sky HD is to be used as people were forced to use component inputs whilst Sky and Pioneer argued over who was to blame.

I've got the older PDP-427XD and am very happy with it. It's an excellent set and even got "Home Cinema Choice" best buy. http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-...?reviewid=6994 I think you won't go wrong with either choice though. Pioneer and Panasonic are both the leaders in plasma.

what do people think is more important? resolution or contrast. The panasonic has a 5000:1 contrast whereas the panasonic has a 16000:1. The panasonic has a better resolution though.....decisions....

Don't get too carried away with the specs - different manufacturers use different measuring methods - so it's impossible to say which of those above is actually best?. Mind you, as you said 'Panasonic' for both, it's even harder!

reviews are saying the 8th generation pioneers are the best flat screen TVs ever.

oops sorry nigel. the pioneer has a 16000:1 and the panasonic a 5000:1 contrast ratio. From the few reviews i've read it says that the pioneer is better at SD broadcasts compared to the panasonic.....so now i'm veering towards teh pioneer. The only problem is if i'm spending that sorta money i kinda think i should be gettin a 1080 full hd set, just for futureproofness....hmmmm.
