Help please. Slightly frustrated with the new machine.
(Bit of an understatement to be honest).

How do I get the Chapter Marks/positions copied with the recording, from HDD to a DVD-r?

I have copied at least 10 hours from videos to the HDD in preparation for dubbing to dvd.

Spent hours!!!! entering chapter marks in the recordings on the HDD.

Did my first dubbing up to a dvd-r and....... not a single chapter mark was recorded.

In settings
Auto Chapter (HDD/VR) ON
Auto Chapter (Video) 10 mins
Auto Chapter (dvd+r dvd+rw) 10 mins
HDD recording format Video Mode ON

Such a fundamental requirement, so it must be me and my settings.

If it's anything like my 910, having Auto Chapter ON will cause it to ignore existing chapter marks, and just add the automatic every-six-minutes marks when dubbing.

Auto chaptering works vey well when I record into my Sony 510. I have been happy in the past accepting these chapter points being put in for example when a scene changed.... sometimes it co-incided with an ad break sometimes not.

So at the very least I expected this on the 870. But I didn't get any chapter markers on the recorded video. So using Chapter edit I put them in myself... did I mention this took ages!!!
And then to have them all totally ignored when it was dubbed to a DVD.....

Any one else have an 870 that does transfer them?, maybe I have a duff m/c.

I think it may depend on whether you're in VR mode or Video mode.

Yes I think there is VR/Video mode situation going on.

Anyhow I am making progress. Last night I dubbed a 3 hr video in real time to a DVD+RW and although it ignored my meticulously placed chapter marks it did at least put marks every 10 mins.

Dubbing to DVD-R = No chapter marks. (fast dub)
Dubbing to DVD+RW = 10 min chapter marks (real time).

I have retained the default settings for recording.

Auto Chapter (HDD/VR) ON
Auto Chapter Video 10 min
Auto Chapter (DVD+R/+RW) 10 min

The system set up menu only mentions HDD and DVD+R/RW
It's the DVD-R that I need to get chapters on now....
So have to change something and try a real time dubbing.

I think the operating system of the Sony 510 is FAR SUPERIOR to this newer machine.

The 870 doesn't have a playlist facility on the HDD.... so how can I safely edit all my videos now?

Why oh Why did Sony completely re-design it...
What a waste of their money when they could have so easily just bolted on new software to cater for the digital tuner EPG additional features.

And I have to remember to record from Satellite using Line3 on the Sony 510 and Line 1 On the Sony 870...... Why change that for gods sake!!!!.

Have I really brought a Sony machine? Well it certainly doesn't feel like it.

Any more help would be really appreciated as you can probably see my frustration is building by the moment.
