Depends what you want to use it for? Also, people are expecting apple to release a new ipod around end of august/beginning of september if you wanted one of those...

I have been a proud owner of a zen touch 20gb for the last few years it is a great player a single charge gives 24hrs playback & you ain't limited on sources to upload your mp3s from as there is no evil drm on it , the s/ware given by creative isn't all that as you cannot copy tracks from the zen back to your pc, but I bought some software called notmad from red chair, I have included the link below. This sofware makes the zen even more great as you are able to copy other existing windows playlists and it automaticly copies over the tracks for you and organises them just how they are on winamp

A ipod, i've got a nano and a normal one.

But only problem that might affect you is that if you sync your ipod with a mac, it won't work when you connect it to a windows OS. You can't access track on a Windows or use it as a hard drive without it being formatted as a windows.

But appart from that its all your own preference to what you prefer...

Not true, if the iPod is Windows formatted you can sync it on a Mac or Windows PC.

I lost a Creative Zen 60GB and have been given an insurance claim to replace it?. Am I right in saying that there is a slimmer version of the Creative Zen Vision M 60GB available and if so were can I purchase this?

Can someone confirm whether this is the slim version of the Creative Zen Vision M or not?

I had a lot of problems with my Zen. I had to claim the warranty and even the newer one I have has several problems.
Also, don't lose the 'sync adapter'! It's tiny and you can't even buy a replacement from the official site!

the official ones out of stock at the moment, although there are alternatives to the sync adaptor.

Out of the two I would go for the ipod because -
Extra storage
Gapless playback
better sound quality
better audio format support
rockbox compatible

On the other hand, I'm only interested in audio, and the Ipod is certainly better in that respect. However, the zen is the superior video player.

The intelligent people buy an Archos. The 504 (got one!) makes an iPod video look like a V-Tech toy, i wont even mention the Zen.

... if they want to go up to a PMP maybe.

The Archos is a fair bit bigger than both the players in question here. If the battery life on the 504 was bit better, and it didn't need a docking station, I *might* almost agree with you.

so in you opinion people with iPods are of less inteligence, bit of a snobby attitude me thinks people will chose what is best for them, i have an ipod as it suits me and is the easiest to use but then again i would never dream of insulting others who don't go for archos as we all like what we like,

This one is easy. Ipod everytime, especially now it's a little cheaper. I just hope the new model Ipod follows along the same lines as the iphones fip- touch screen interface.

Any reasons behind that or was that just a fanboy post?

Zen plays more video formats and has a better screen but is slightly bulkier than an ipod and accessories are a bit harder to come by.

iPod has a nice design and interface but the batteries are poo and their video playback is limited unless you convert everything.

Depends what you want the player for really...

If you don't buy songs from iTunes then the iPod doesn't have any DRM on it either. In fact if you buy Windows DRM'ed files the zen would have DRM. mp3's don't actually support DRM.

I'm not insulting anyone at all.

I was basically saying if you're going to buy an iPod video, a smarter choice would be to get an Archos. It is far better in all areas, the same goes for the Zen video thing.

iPods are fine for music, but for video, it is poor, so you would have to be silly to overlook the best PMP out there.

But the Zen is actually very good for video .... and a lot smaller than the Archos. The screen is smaller yes, but if you want a bigger screen, you move up to PMP size.

As for the Archos being the best PMP available ... thats a matter of opinion. Personally, I don't agree. Id' say it and the Cowon A2 are about on a par. Both have areas where they are stronger. I wanted battery life and everything 'in one box' so the Cowon is the better player for me. If I wanted it as a PVR or to play straight DVD copies without conversion, I might well have gone for the Archos.
