1571 Text Alerts

I use the text alerts on my 1571 Call Minder Voicemail, where I get a text every time someone leaves a message for me at home. I've recently moved from BT to Pipex, but my mobile still seems to be attached to my BT account so I can't use it to get texts from Pipex.

I've been round and round in a call centre circle trying to resolve this... BT say they can't do anything because my account is closed. Pipex repeatedly deny the service exists, even though I've signed up an alternative mobile to it and it works perfectly!

Does anyone know how I can get this sorted so I get texts to the right mobile? Also does anyone know why I don't get these texts when I'm abroad?

Thanks.

Could you clarify whether you've moved your line rental to Pipex, or just your calls - i.e. are you now using the Pipex equivalent of BT's text alert feature?

As for why you don't get them abroad, I guess the alert texts cannot be routed via a foreign network. Maybe your landline operator needs to know that the text has reached its destination before they can add the cost to your bill, and this isn't possible with foreign networks. Just clutching at straws here...

Thanks for the reply. I've moved everything to Pipex including my line rental. When I use Call Minder it still announces itself as 'BT Call Minder' but Pipex say that's quite normal - don't understand why though!

Why do you use 1571?

All it does is incur extra expense for someone ringing you when you're not in, or engaged, then you have to ring them back, and incur extra expense yourself.

If you didn't use 1571, you could look on your phone and see who called you. Those who called wouldn't have been charged, and could have rung you back again if it had been urgent.

Don't you realise why BT offer 1571 for free? Because it at least doubles their income from calls to those who use it.

Do everyone a favour, and drop 1571!

Caller display is £1.75 per month, I am sure people don't mind paying for a call if they know you will get the message, could save money if they leave a one minute message compared to a long phone call to chat.

With BT you can get Caller Display for free by signing up to their telephone preference opt out scheme. You have to make a miniumum of 2 calls per month, ie 10p in total. Much cheaper.

Is there a similar service on Virgin Media National to that of BT 1571 text alerts?
