She should have listened to him.You can't follow a huge, world wide smash hit album with an album which will practically desert everyone who was into the last one. The new one is just far too rocky for her fans and she should have realised this. I wonder if he'll keep her signed up?

I don't think it has bombed IMO. It's gold already and sold more in the first week than 'Breakway' did.

I think maybe overall so far 'My December' might have sold less than 'Breakaway' but its far from flopping. I think with 'How I feel' set to be the third single, sales should pick up as imo 'How I feel' is like some of the songs from her last album.

True, but that's only like selling between 50,000 and 75,000 copies in the UK. Which is barely average for the period of time the album has been out, especially an artist of her size.

I think saying that the album has "bombed" is a tad harsh. "Underperformed" may be more accurate. I got the album a couple of weeks ago and was half expecting it to be a disaster after all the negative publicity that has surrounded it. But I've been pleasantly surprised by it.

I'd say "not done quite as well as expected", but it definitely didn't flop. After all, it was the #1 album in the world in its first week.

The thing is, Kelly said in numerous interviews that this album wouldn't do as well as her previous one. She never expected it to because the songs aren't as catchy and radio-friendly.

plus "since youve been gone" was one of those 'once every 5 years' type songs that an artist gets handed and is a monster hit, very rarely do artists get such catchy and popular songs frequently. So she'd have expected the disapointing sales

i do think she could do a lot more promotion in the UK though, like get on chatshows...i like her music, but know very little about her, i can't even say ive heard her speak!

if the British public got to know her better, she'd pick up sales IMO. She gets good airplay, but its that 'buy CD's 3 times a year for mothers day, fathers day and xmas' type consumer she needs to attract IMO, ie the ones that go for the artists they 'know well'

Yes, but people bought it on the strength of the last album which sold 10 million worldwide (is this correct?). I guarantee this album will tumble out of the world chart very quickly. There are no stand out songs really on the album and i don't even think that the record company will even let her release a 3rd single from it. They never do when the album doesn't perform well. It might have sold half a million already in the states but that was mostly in the first week and now it's falling out of the chart.

There are alot of Kelly fans on here in denial (I don't hate her by the way. I have both the albums) but come on, even she has admitted it on her website that it hasn't worked. She's admitted defeat. Clive will steer her back in the right direction for the next album i bet.

I think her music should speak for itself, she could talk about the songs and what they are about but it shouldn't matter about her personally.

"My December" on the world chart:

1 - 4 - 10 - 14

In its 4th week, its out the top 10 and only selling 87,000 copies. She'll be lucky to sell 20% of what "Breakaway" did at this rate. It doesn't help that there isn't a decent second single to lift those sales either.

We all know she got it wrong and it seems she has realised as well. A bitter victory for Clive Davis, proven right in the media spotlight, but he's just lost out on millions of album sales.

Hopefully, she'll get back to Max Martin and they can get some decent songs back out again.

Maybe if Clive Davis had supported Kelly and hadn't publicly slated her album instead, she'd be doing better, yes?

i personally do agree...

BUT there is a huge market of people who rarely buy CD's/dont listen to the radio often...who will buy CD's for presents etc.

ie people who could be unaware of Kelly at the moment.

I dont see how going on jonathan ross/parkinson would do her any harm, and as I said may introduce her to a new market.

Conversely, maybe if little miss trumped up hadn't bitten the hand that has fed her so well over the last couple of years and realised without her mentor she amounts to very little, the ensuing album would have done very well.

You're exactly right and Kelly will be right back with him now and the new album will no doubt be released soon and billed as the follow up to Breakaway with 'My December' wiped from memory like someone else on here said.

She should have known though to follow up something as sucessful as Breakaway is to release something just as similar e.g Breakaway 2, to guarantee the worldwide hits and cement her as a superstar. It could and would have worked out! God i'm so angry and frustrated that she couldn't see this! After that 3rd successful abum would have been the time to become more experimental not after her first big success. However, i'm sure if Clive gets this new album together soon i'm sure all is not lost for Kelly otherwise she'll turn into an Alanis Morrisette type artist and i don't want her to (i'm sad enough that it happened to Alanis with that horrendous 2nd album all those years ago )

I personally don't like her music or her "persona" but I actually respect that she doesn't do these things and that she did her own thing instead of letting the record bosses push her around.

People in the media like Perez misrepresent the facts. The album on its first week actually reached one place higher than Breakaway did on its first week, as well it getting brilliant reviews and the fact that a fourth studio album was already being planned well ahead of the release of the current one, with Clarkson claiming the new album will have blues and country influences.
