Nothing I have found on google is working
I have a 2gb Nano, and it has just died. It is fully charged, and it has just updated two songs when I plugged it ino my computer, but other than that it will do nothing. I cant get it to switch on. When it was plugged into the usb it was showing the locked symbol, but the hold button wasn't on! Switching it on and off made no difference. Have I broken it forever?! Please say it isn't so!

I presume you tried resetting it by doing the following:

From the Apple website...
Quote:
“1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.”

That's all I can think of trying.

EDIT: Just noticed you can't get it to switch on!

Is it still under warranty? Have you contacted Apple? Have you searched the Apple discussion forums?

Hi Trophywife i had the same thing with my ipod about a month ago .I tried everything i could think of and was going to get the hammer to batter it to death. When i cooled down i connected it to the computer and " The would you like to " DOWNLOAD the latest version of itunes whatever the version was. I downloaded it and my ipod came to life again ,So i had to put the hammer away and the ipod has worked great ever since . Maybe you have not upgraded your version of itunes and that is why it has went to sleep ,it worked for me give it a try.francis

If all else fails, go to your local Apple store. They have a free diagnostic service. My daughter bought an ipod from ebay and they sorted out her problem (cheap, crappy connection cable!)

I just came online to ask about a similar problem, mine just had a completely blue screen and was dead in every other way (even when I plugged it into the computer it wasn't recognised ) but following the instructions for resetting it quoted by beachball has fixed it, phew!
