I've just bought 2 WS flat screen TVs, both Goodmans, for the lounge and bedroom. I have Sky+ with Magic Eye to watch SKy in bedroom on the second TV.

The aspect ratio on my Sky box is set to 16:9. The picture appears fine on the main TV, but in the bedroom the aspect ratio is all wrong. Such that the BBC1 Idents are displayed as egg shaped rather than a circle.

I have tried changing the aspect ratio on the TV but to no avail. The problem only seems to rectify when I set the Sky box to broadcast in 4:3 Letterbox, and even then I have the bars at top and bottom of the screen, which defeats the object of me buying Widescreen TVs.

It's almost as if the bedroom TV isn't a true Widescreen TV, but just a TV with a wider screen.

Any aspect ratio experts out there who can help? Or is the TV dodgy.

Its a Goodmans LD1930W - 19" If that's any help?

Well the first check is how does the tv perform when connected via scart next to the sky box?

Using the aerial (RF) lead to the upstairs means the Skybox cannot send the aspect ratio switching signal to the second TV so it manually needs to be set to its 16/9 wide mode rather than 4/3, 14/9, lettbox or stretchy mode.

If it doesn't look right when you've set it to its 16/9 anamorphic wide mode (where it stretches the width out evenly to fill the screen) then maybe it's faulty.

not sure about the Magic eye device (I dont have one), but if it plugs into the Sky RF Output2 socket, you need to make sure the corrisponding menu is set to 16:9 on the Sky box (there's a setting for each output).

Or, maybe the Magic Eye connects to the VCR-SCART on the Sky box - this might be an issue as the VCR-SCART on the Sky decoder doesnt carry the Voltage aspect ratio switching signal.

I would hope the Magic Ege device connects to the main Sky tv-scart socket using some form of piggy-back scart connection (so you dont lose a scart socket). However, I am not sure even under this method how the Magic Eye can translate the Sky Volatge Aspect switching signal into a wireless signal, transmit it to the other Magic Eye on the other tv's scart, and turn it back into a voltage signal.

TVLinks (magic eye) only connect to the RF2 out connections...they do not connect by scart.
