What is this number ??? my m8 gave it me, and when i put it on my phone (Sony CMD-J5) it said Activaiting, then it Said Activation Failed ! But on my m8's phone (Nokia...Somethin), it gives him £2.50 Credit !!!! does this number only work on certain phones ?

Not Rubbish ! It Actually Worked !! i was there when he tried it ! He Also said, "U Can Only Do It Once a Week, because if u try it agin, the phone will lock the sim !" Theres got to be some explanation !

Your friend is really talking utter rubbish... he must have got the £2.50 credit by paying!!

*4720# is the standard GSM code to switch on HR (half-rate codec) for lower sound quality.

#4720# switches off the function.

In the UK the sound codec is controlled by the network, normally we use EFR (Enhanced Full Rate) which is the best sounding. If the local cell is congested the phone may be switched to FR (Full Rate) or HR.

Erm... I think he was B/Sing you!

The phone has no control over the balance, that's the networks thing.

Yep, I had a C12 on the original Cellnet PAYG, with the free calls to one number. That rocked!

There was also a hex dump flying around to get free calls, but I never could get the right PIC programmer for the chip...
