****** got Den shot (eastenders spoiler)
As you will have probably read elsewhere on this site The Sunday Mirror are trying to persuade us that when Den comes back it'll be revealed that it was Pauline who tried to get him shot, not Jack Dalton.
Read it here I can't decide if this is a really good or bad idea. What do you think? |

I think it makes the word 'stupid' look like a scriptwriter's defintion of intelligent story-telling.
But maybe that's just me - I'm not looking forward to Dirty Den's return. In fact the closer it gets the more I detest the idea. I never had much time for the character the first time round and I think Leslie Grantham is one of the most one-dimensional, wooden and limited actors ever to appear in EE. The whole thing smacks of a desperate attempt to recapture the heyday of the soap - whereas I think they would be much better served concentrating on developing the characters they have now. Some of them are crying out for a decent storyline. Pauline Fowler - cross her and you can expect a bullet in the back??? Still, I suppose it's just about as believeable as the Russian mafia being interested in protecting a small-time crook who runs a pub in a dead-end East London borough. |

OMG This is totally ridiculous! I am sure I remember an episode on UK Gold in the last few years about how they recovered a body in the canal and dental records identified it as Den. Is this correct? Even if it is not, this is so stupid! But it will get the ratings and thats all that matters to the makers of EastEnders.

It's Julie Goodyear syndrome all over again
And her return wasn't even THAT bad, especially as it was clearly more believable. Still Neighbours got away with the Harold thing ![]() I'll reserve full judgement, but it'll have to be damn GOOD if it's not to get people laughing in disbelief... |

Eastenders has had me laughing in disbelief for so long now I don't think I will notice the difference.
The idea that Pauline would hire a hitman defies credibility. She made a fuss about Martin drinking underage! Surely she is too law abiding to be involved in a shooting, even in defence of her family. The Russian idea is also totally barmy. Surely they only need to state that Den was falsely identified to allow him to go into hiding. I have not seen the episodes where he was identified so do not know if this would even work. Any info on those episodes would be appreciated. I know we are only talking about a soap when all said and done but I don't like to be treated like an idiot. |

PMSL! ROFLMAO!
Pauline???? I think they've been putting something in the water if this is true.... I thought she was more of a Cereal Mum than a Serial Mom. |

I think you have summed it up.
It's pretty 'out there' as far as storylines go. But then I'm thinking maybe this idea is so crazy it'll work...it's certainly a twist and a half! |

Sounds like an act of desperation to me. The good thing about Den was Angie and she is dead. He is older now - not as sexy as 13 years ago.
However let's give EE a chance to redeem itself after a poor few months. Though to connect his death to Pauline is ridiculous!!! |

I also think we would have remembered if she had been acting weirdly around the time before and afterwards....
However, I tend to believe that its more on the side of a sensationalist story made up by the paper....rather than being true. These tabloids will do anything to sell papers! |

The idea that Pauline hired someone to shoot Den is totally ridiculous. For a start where would Pauline find the money to hire a hitman? If I remember rightly at the time her and Arthur were broke. As it was 14 years ago my memory's a little fuzzy, so i'm not totally sure exactly how they identified Den as the body that was found. All I really remember was Sharon finding a ring on the market, her asking Michelle if it was Den's ring then her finding out that some kid had fished it out of the river which then led Sharon to demand the river be searched thus finding the body. This could be fantastic but it could also sink faster then the Titanic if this is handled wrong. I think they'll be some great scenes between Leslie Grantham and Letita Dean. Quote:

I had heard that it was actually Jack Dalton that put the hit on Den cos of a business deal that went wrong and he dies and that's why Den feels he can come back now. I read that during a scuffle between Phil and Jack that Phil accidentally kills Jack.Helen |
