HDTV advice for the new boy...
I've decided to make the move from CRT to LCD HDTV (Huzzah!
) and I think I've found exactly what I'm looking for HERE (I intend to buy the bundle with the stand).Would this do for a living room where the seats are about 8 - 12 feet away from the telly space? I'll be using the telly mainly for Wii/360 gaming (and possibly a PS3 in the future), so the Samsung models are ideal for the high contrast and low response times. But I'll also be watching SD DVD and SD Sky viewing as well. Can anyone advise if this is a good choice TV for my requirements, or is there a better/cheaper model somewhere else online? Cheers in advance for any feedback.

There is such a huge range in performance between brands and prices ranges that it's folly to tell anyone what HD telly would suit their needs.
In general terms 32" is fine for the viewing distance but as for it's SD performance (critical given the amount of HD atm) well that advice has to come from a fellow user. Your best bet is to visit the AVForums and their LCD section and find people who own the set and can give real life advice. When posting a thread it's also useful to say more than you just need advice, many will simply not open the thread. |

I can only tell you my experience last year when we got Sky HD.
We had a 28 inch Sony CRT (excellent TV - still use it in the bedroom). We thought that a 32 inch LCD was the way to go and looked at many different models. But, then at least (maybe not a year on???) we were very surprised to discover two things. With Flatscreens you want bigger than 32 inch. Plasma blew away LCD in terms of PQ - blacks were deeper, there was no trace of motion blur on football(as on several LCDs we tested) and SD was a big issue. As most programmes are in SD still the PQ on the plasma we bought (Panasonic 37 PX 60) far exceeded anything we saw on LCD. There is no substitute for trying things out. We would have bought the wrong TV for our needs if we had not spent several weeks making sure we matched what we wanted to what was available. |

Cheers, fellers. Unfortunately Plasma is way out of my price range (I can just about stretch to the LCD and stand) and a 40" + telly is just too big to be honest.
I think I might go with the Samsung & stand bundle after all.
