Ages ago I was listening to Radio 4 - some sort of arts review programme, and there was this really good track, I'd heard something by the guy before and was quite intrigued and impressed. Trouble is I can't remember the guy's name.

The music/backing track is very lo-fi, one track was just voice and bass, it was kind of speaking singing but not what I'd called rap and the song was very narrative - it told a story about feeling crap going for a night out or something. It was a similar style to The Streets but much more lo-fi and the lyric had this incredible rhythm, a combination of conversational, storytelling and poetry. Since hearing it I haven't stopped thinking about it and now want to get the guy's album, but who is he?

I think he was on the Culture Show as well.

Any help appreciated

Mate never saw show but the only person that comes to mind is Jamie T. The style is what I think they call 'Urban Poetry' but I could be wrong. His most recent hit was called 'Sheila' and has the line some thing.. like "my mate has a girl called Stella, cos she gets poured all over her fella" Something like that anyway.

I'm gonna go with Jamie T as well, he was on the Culture Show a while ago too... I highly recommend his album Panic Prevention The track you might be talking about with the bass could be Brand New Bass Guitar... you can listen to some stuff on his site http://www.jamie-t.com/
