Mini-disc question
I've searched the archives and couldn't find anyone else asking this, but apologies if they have:
How do I record *from my mini-disc* onto my PC? I've interviewed someone on mini-disc and I want to, eventually, get it onto a CD. Is this possible at all? I opened that in-built Sound Recorder thing, but have no idea what I need to plug in where, and it seems a pretty basic application. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. |

You need to set the recording scource to line in, and plug in your MD player to the line in socket. You could then burn the created file onto CD as well, although I'm not sure how you'd go about setting track markers.

Sorry, I'll try again with more detail
![]() Connect the line out (or headphone socket) to the line in on your PC, most likely around the back near a mic and speaker socket. Then in sound recorder, set the recording scource to line in. I haven't actually used this with a minidisk player but the theory should be the same whatever the sound scource is. |

It should work no problem. I have done the same though making recordings of my old records instead.

You could also try Musicmatch Jukebox, which has a free version as well as the pro.
What you may need to do is do a couple of test recordings to check the record levels, I do my adjustments from the MD player. Another programme I use is WWW.supermp3recorder.com which will record the output of your computer. |

I recently bought a Sony MNZ510 recordable minidisc player. I was attempting to record some tracks via the digital optical lead from a couple of DVD's i own but it will only allow playback. I guess there is some encryption on the discs to prevent piracy. Is it not possable to record tracks from DVD to minidisc. Any help would be apprecaited.

digital copy protection
There's digital copy protection in both dvd and minidisc thats probably preventing you. (I think dvds report as a first generation digital copy and minidisc only allows digital copies of originals)
You will have to use an analogue signal (this will work) I think you can trick some mini disks into allowing you to record a protected digital, this may involve going through another bit of kit. Check minidisk forums. |

The copy protection only applies to copyright material of course. Commercially produced tracks have a flag set in the data stream which other recorders recognise and then refuse to record if they detect the "set" flag.
If the tracks were a home recording of some sort (like the interview the original poster mentioned) you should be able to make a digital copy. Graeme |

If you can find some one with a sony minidisc player and net MD then you can just connect via USB and pull the files over and export to .wav or .mp3
The line in socket is the pale blue on on the back of the computer, though if you get the levels right you could use the pink mic socket. With regard to the track markers... You'll find the Nero Burn has the facility to set these, as well as fade in fade out etc. |

yeah sorry, my earlier post was a reply to the dvd recording question.
Flagpole: As far as I am aware Net-MD players do not allow the data to be transfered from the minidisk back to the PC. This is another digital piracy prevention measure, and a bit of a ongoing issue between MD users and Sony. |
