On the subject of short numbers, is it regulated by ICSTIS and do adverts that include these 8xxxx numbers have to show the extra cost (if any) above your normal messaging charge.

What if you send an SMS from one of these free SMS sites?

I think these premium short codes are a bloody stupid idea...

They have adverts aimed squarly at younger teenagers, e.g "Get S Club and many more on your mobile, get three tones per week" they text something to 8xxxx or whatever and recive their three tones per week. But only does it say in really small print at the bottom of the ad, "Tones cost around £3.50 each" that's over £10 a week!!! Now legally they're covered becuase they put the message there, but since when do ten year olds read the small print??

Yes I think Virgin mobile is more likely to be protecting us from these stupid charges.

These premium rate text companies often send many rubbish and costly texts and circulate your number for advertising purposes.

You can text Virgin Radio on their short code number (costs 25p)
