I have sky talk and remember being told when I joined that if I wanted to make a phone call anytime there was a prefix I could use that would transfer if back for one call only.
Does anyone know what this number is as I have forgotten it?
Thanks,
Susan

The prefix 1280 will cause a single call to 'hop back onto BT' (ideal for making those 2 x 4½p evening or weekend UK 01/02 calls of less than an hour each month so you still get Caller Display 'almost free' from BT).

However, using 18185 as well is highly recommended for calls to UK mobiles etc.

Thanks for that, can you expand further on the bit about the caller display andsing BT. I do have Caller Display, are you saying that it is cheaper if I make these 2 short calls. I am not on any plan with BT just Sky Talk with free calls at weekends and evenings.
Thanks

Certainly. BTW, you should be on BT Together Option 1 (which, if you pay by DD and opt for paper-free billing, will cost £10.50/month).

BT introduced free Caller Dsiplay on 1/7/2005 but were clever enough a short while later to add "provided you make some calls via BT" to their T&Cs.

Last year, they changed that to "provided you make at least 6 chargeable calls per quarter if you're billed quarterly or 2 per month if you billed monthly."

Fail that T&C and a charge of £1.75/month (£5.25/quarter) appears on your bill.

The same now applies to 1571 (spit) but the cost there is £3/quarter IIRC.

As soon as you change to a CPS provider for your outgoing calls, you cease making calls via BT and have to deliberately make them to qualify for 'nearly free' Caller Display and/or 1571 (spit).

I have my local Indian takeaway programmed into my DECT handset with a 1280 prefix. It opens at 6pm - so the calls cost 4½p each and are certain to be less than an hour!
