Greetings. I though that I would open a thread to take us through the coming season with details and opinions about commentators and reporters on International, National, Regional and Local Radio covering English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish Football (and Rugby) in 2007/2008.

The season starts tonight with UEFA Champions league Football so I shall post the first details tonight when I find them.

To start things off I know that Peter Martin is commentating on the Rangers game for Clyde 1 and 2 tonight but not sure of any other details yet.

I have also heard a rumour that Clyde have scrapped their Saturday afternoon sports coverage but hopefully that's not the case.

BBC Coventry and Warwickshire, Clive Eakin and Geoff Foster should still be doing the commentaries this year for the Coventry City games

Can't say i'm too excited about this pairing though,i want Rob Gurney back - if you haven't heard him he is a definite contender for BBC National Radio

Where is Rob Gurney these days. Is he at BBC WM?

He is at BBC WM, Heard him do some cricket commentary the other week and by far he is the best local radio commentator around the midlands area.

Like i say wish he was back doing Coventry games, he does support the club and is very passionate about it

As last year, there seems to be no in-progress reporting from Ibrox in European matches.

It seems UTV's stations will no longer carry sports coverage this season, which means no more Graham Lovett and Mike Bennett doing Bolton's games on Tower FM. A shame as it was the only time I used to listen to the station.

Who has the rights to Bolton's matches now?

It seems that UTV are continuing to invest in rights for talkSPORT and Talk 107 but not the other local radio stations. Beacon recently won the rights to Wolves matches taking them off The Wolf as well.

BBC Radio Manchester have provided commentary for Bolton's games for many years and I think that will continue. As for the commercial sector, I don't know.

Would BBC Radio Manchester not have conflicts with covering Manchester City or does it split its commentaries using FM and DAB?

I think it has split DAB and FM in the past, although I used to listen to the Tower FM commentary, so I don't know for sure.

talkSPORT have announced that Bolton v Newcastle will be their commentary game on the first day of the season. Have Five Live said who their game will be?

Does anybody listen during the day? Anyway back on topic. I hope Jack Dearden is back commentating again on Bolton for Radio Manchester, I like him.
I presume 5 Live will use Green and Ingham on Sunday?

I'm not sure that BBC Radio Five Live announces its Saturday matches before the day itself.

On the local radio front, Pure 107.8 FM's commentary team for Stockport County matches this season will be Jon Keighren, Des Hinks and Pete Liggins.

Spire FM's commentator for Salisbury City's matches will be Justin Edwards.

Five Live must have chosen what game they're going to broadcast as they have the first pick of matches with talkSPORT having the second. I would guess that Five Live have gone with West Ham v Manchester City though.

Craig Brown is now Director of Football at Derby which may restrict his radio appearances.
Pure 107.8 has taken over from UTV's Imagine Fm as the provider of live and exclusive commentary for Stockport County in 2007-08 season. Same commentator though I think.

I think Jack Deadren left the BBC last year. Phil Kinsella was doing their Bolton commentary. I liked Jack as well, he was last seen on Channel M doing their rugby league show.

As for Tower's daytime audience, their RAJARs look quite healthy with a reach of 100,000 (24%). I always got the impression that their commentaries were quite popular; purely anecdotal evidence of course, but their figures for the December quarter will either bear that out or dismiss it.

That might explain why Jack Dearden popped up on, I think, Today FM towards the end of last season. JD also did Rugby League commentaries on BBC Radio Manchester so they must be awash with commentators.

A far cry from when the second half commentary was announced at 3pm! Does anyone know if Beacon still has the Wolves games this season? I grew to love Game On - thought it was excellent!
