Interesting to hear John Murray presenting 5 Live Sport yesterday, an experiment or an emergency presenter?

I was wondering about that too. i think 5 Live clearly seem his as their most valuable asset, behind Mike Ingham and Alan Green. Unfortunately for Murray, he is never going to consistently get the real top matches until Ingham starts to wind down. I imagine 5 Live are trying their best to keep hold of Murray until this happens- by giving him various different other roles. he has already been given the Saturday afternoon commentary slot, which previously used to rotate.

Obviously 5 Live still have a virtual monopoly on radio commentary but they have to resist the advances of TV, Sky in particular will soon be looking for new top men, with 3 of their top 4 in their 60s. I imagine they will be keen to keep hold of Murray, and others like Conor McNamara and Ian Dennis, and need to find other roles to occupy them whilst Ingham and Green are still guaranteed the biggest games.

Martin Tyler was born in 1945 and Alan Parry in 1947, that much I know, but is Ian Darke really that old?

One thing puzzles me. Talk Sport announces its Saturday 3pm commentary match in advance but BBC Radio Five Live doesn't seem to mention its commentary until the start of the programme.

Since Chris_Walsall seems no longer to post here, we need some information about West Midlands local radio coverage. Anybody help?

I assume that Charles Harrison, who covered Sunderland for Metro, has long since retired (and, I hope, enjoying his well-earned retirement). What happened to his son (?), Alistair who used to report on Sunderland for IRN in days of yore?

I can only remember CH as a commentator in the 1970/80s. I am not sure with whom CH/AH worked.
