I've been reading the increasingly irritating messages on E4 from what seem to be from very young teens today and they were coming out with things such as:

"Nush is by far the nicest and funniest housemate but Fed to win because he's so sexy!"

I found it extremely annoying and therefore rang up and voted to evict Federico! Is it possible that the young audience may take over the show this year with all their text votes and endless supply of phone credit? I definitely hope not! I myself am only 14 but no-one I know carries on like these lot do.

I know I'm going to get lots of replys saying "We're not all like that etc..." I know that I'm only generalising on the people texting E4.

looks plays a big part. it will get you votes (in the final) if your someone like tania, nush, justine and anoushka and help keep you in. even if gos was the best housmate you can't see him winning. i wonder why?

It's been more about looks this year because they mostly seem pretty short on personailty, and nothing has really happened yet. Therefore, there isn't much else to talk about...

Youngish audience == youngish values

I can't understand myself how people appreciate Fed Up. Good looking he may or may not be, but as an entertaining precense he is utterley dull. His and Anushkas wincingly embarrasing videos (shown as BBLB tonight) are more evidence of that.

My own personal opinion is that looks are as valid as any other criteria people choose to get interested in the show/contestants. Quite frankly I don't care if somebody assumes I must be pre-pubescent just because I like a bit of eye candy, its not the only reason I have my favourites but I don't deny the fact that fancying somebody helps.

I accept people have their own methods for assessing the worthiness of their favourites - I find Jon a complete bore but I can understand that others find him endearing.

As for the texts that doesn't bother me either, its their money to waste and sometimes (rarely) they are quite funny and it gives me something to read when the sound is cut.

It's always been about looks on Big Brother and some will always blindly support those they find physically attractive. In more ways than one it's all about stereotypes, and 90% of viewers don't bother looking below the surface. Perceptions are formed in the first few seconds and don't budge much from that initial reaction.

Contestants who have wide eyed and pretty faces have been perceived as sweet and lovely, damsels in distress, despite being among the bitchiest and most two-faced manipulative and deceptive contestants in the house, and may even go on to win. As long as you look sweet and vulnerable while you stab someone in the back, you'll get away with murder.

Or those with faces that look pinched or a little terse, despite having a heart of gold, will still be perceived by most viewers as bitchy and nasty, without any foundation.

A man with striking good looks will always be perceived as vain, limp-wristed, and a ponce.

Age old stereotypes, it's all a pantomime and there's no changing it.

Well I go for entertainment value everytime personality
and looks second.

If looks are important, how did Craig manage to win?

lets just say we were not blessed well in the looks department in bb1. the best looking was probably mel but she was never going to win.

Out of all the men in BB1, Craig was probably the best looking of the lot, and spent most of the time semi naked with his muscles bulging.

I beg to differ.....It was leaked out before the final what he intended to do...

I don't think it's all about looks.
I posted the following on the 'Who's your Favourite' poll, & apologise for reposting it here, but think it's pertinent.

I think Cameron has that 'IT' factor that makes certain people light up on camera & makes them photogenic.
Some people like Alex have it naturally & others like Jonny & Kate try so hard yet fail to get anywhere near that elusive quality that makes them stand out in a crowd of people.
It's nothing to do with looks, but a certain factor that makes you look at them rather than other people, even when they are in a crowd.
I think Anouska is trying very hard to have 'IT' but possibly because it's so contrived, I don't think it's working.

I presume that was tabloid leaked then. I certainly didn't know about it until he had won and came out with the t-shirt thing and all the "I told you I would do it" stuff.

I personally loathe emotional blackmail.

I never new that Craig was going to donate the money until it was revealed afterwards. Even if this was leaked it obviously wasn't leaked long before the final show and I doubt it made much difference.

Similarly I never knew that Johnny intened to do anything 'charitable' with his money(?) and didn't help him to win either (thankfully!)

I think Craig's win had much to do with the fact he was a likeable and general good guy. There was nothing really offensive about him. His looks probably contributed to this but I wouldn't say it was a major factor.

Craig won because of the Nick incident. before that he had a lot of the house mates having a go at him if I remember because if I remember correctly they thought he was lazy and did not join in much on the bicycle task.

The producers this year seem to have gone for instant physical appeal, there are no housemates this year that you could really call unattractive.

Why I wonder?

Could it be they were a little concerned that the big brother scenario was getting a little ‘old hat’ and are trying to improve ratings with the promise of shower scenes et al.

I know it’s very early days but character and genuine interest value seems to have been sacrificed in favour of looks.

I think looks are part of the reason people will want some contestants to stay in but others to go, but it can't be the whole reason. For a start, people have differing opinions on what makes good looks.

I find Nush very pretty, and also Anouska and Justine. I think Gos has a very good looking face.

On the other side of the coin, I think Tania isn't at all pretty, and Scott and Federico do nothing for me in the looks department.

However, I find Anouska far too over-the-top for my liking, and I think Scott could become one of the people I'd like to win, or come close to it. That is at complete odds with my own assesment of whether they're pretty / handsome or not.
