..... so I sent the CEO an email and got a reply within 5 minutes (very impressive). my problem is now sorted after 3 weeks of waiting and 20 calls to the 0800 number. some answered and some to people who were useless.

I now have an engineer coming round to install a new line for free.

sometimes you have to go to the top

What was your problem in the first place?

I've finally spoken to someone who told me (to my horror) that online orders "don't always work" and that my order hadn't even gone past stage 1.

I've now an install date and time window. Is there any way I can find the name of the company who will be doing the installation? I'd feel better confirming with them a few details, as I'll be taking a 5 hour train journey to be there for this apointment!!

I have just moved house, so I ask to be connected and signed up for basic line rental and they told me I would be connected within one day!!!!!

so 4 days later I tried to contact them and see what was happening. unable to contact them

when I did contact them they told me my house had been disconnected from bt for 10 years and the line doesn't seem to be working

then wanted to charge me the new line fee! which I refused. now gonna do it for free!!!

The install will be done by a Openreach engineer.

I done the same thing, got very helpful person called Dan who sorted my problems. Still didn't get it for free as far as I know though!

My story:

- Ordered new line online on Thursday 26th
- Told on Wednesday 1st online orders "don't always work" and I had to give all my details again and start over
- Told on Wednesday 1st that I now had an install date, even tho the person at BT didn't know the correct days of the week for each date he suggested
- Told on Wednesday 1st I didn't need to give any bank details to order
- Told on Thursday 2nd that my orders had all been cancelled for no clear reason
- Order generated again today with new install date

The guy I spoke to today sounded 200% better than the guy I spoke to yesterday.

Third time lucky, I hope. Even got the number of the openreach office doing the install.

Have you got his/her e-mail address? After spending nearly two hours last night trying to get through to the right department, and then being cut off, I decided to give it a rest to stop my head 'exploding'.

Does anyone know why BT has removed the geographic number for Customer Services 0114 2024150 ? It takes so long to get through to anyone, even if you have a fault - beforehand phoning this number helped you get through quicker I think ??

Can anyone help with another geo number for BT Customer Services or do you have to contact the CEO ?

Cheers.
