I know im very late-and very bad for starting a thread on this but I could not resist!

I was on moving cohntry at the time Blink was shown and was furious that I missed it-I just got the DVD's of episodes 1-10 and finally got to see it!

What an amazing episode! OMG-definitly my fav of since DW came back! It was terrifyingly brilliant!!

And Sally Sparrow. What can I say. I finally see why everyone reacted so badly to CT as new companion. That girl is soooo likeable-and hot! Damn I cant believe they bypassed her for Donna. Makes no sense to me whatsoever!

The whole episode was phenomenal-the story was so confusing at first but made perfect sense! I cant go on about it enough!

I want more Sally Sparrow!!!!

LOL

why thank you, i think i will!

Apart from being a superb character-she also has a great sense of humour! Sally Shipton-god i laughed at that!!

Why arent there any real Sally Sparrows where i live?!

I just realised when I looked online-i knew I recognised that actress=she was in Amazing Mrs Pritchard!

OH for anyone interested she will also been in this new drama based on Rudyard Kyplings son "My Boy Jack"-its been in the papers at present becauase Daniel "Harry" Radcliffe plays the lead! Hes got a nice new moustache for the role!

I try not to watch it when it's repeated, it's too painful to think we got freema/martha when we might have had carey/sally.

The highlight of Dr Who-Lite. Superb stuff!!!

A great episode with intelligent plotting and proper dialogue. Written for grown-ups too, with enought ti appeal to the little 'uns.

I'm still not convinced that Catherine Tate IS going to be the next Dr Who companion. I'll believe it when I see it basically.

lol i think you may have read that message as "twice a day" not "twice in a day" lol

I watched it several times already and every time the story has me hooked-and i still watch in fear as those angels attack! I cant believe I missed this episode for so long!! Oh and if theres one thing that can make you re-watch this episode. Sally.

I think I've watched Blink four times altogether, its a brilliant story but at the risk of being chased by angry Sparrow lovers I don't think she'd make a good companion. Not that she wasn't brilliant in the story concerned she was but put her in a series of stories written by various writers they would probably fall back into the companion having the hots for the doc and basically a generic role

Controversial opinion coming up: : : :

TBH i dont see what the big fuss over Blink was. It wasnt any more special than 'dalek' or 'Boom town' IMO. The character of Sally Sparrow was really annoying and i didnt really see enough reason as to why i should like her (And she should NOT be a new companion... not enough to her character and the actress)

It was a good story but nothing special.

I thought it was one of the best of the last series, and that was mainly because I had to concentrate to follow the plot as opposed to having it more or less thrown at you. The thing about Sally is that she was obviously settled at the end and wasn't a companion option unless she fell for the Doctor and left home and the bloke to go with him - and we've had that before.
And I did find the angels scary, and that takes quite a lot these days; I wasn't bothered by the scarecrows and was extremely underwhelmed by the hybrid Dalek.

I agree-the Hybrid Dalek bored me-in fact if im honest episode 4 and 5 were the worst two for me. I cant re-watch them at all. Your right that we would need something big to happen to throw Sally and the Doctor together-she did seem settled by the end of the episode...but hey anything is possible and I wont give up hope-just yet! Carey Milligan must have been on the producers minds for the companion role-how could they overlook her?!

For anyone interested-She will star alongside Daniel Radcliffe in this new drama on ITV about Rudyard Kyplings son-"My Boy Jack" its called!

Riiiight. And where was it stated that the latter was ever even in the running to be a companion? Can you cite a source? I ask only because I never heard that before.

One of my fave episodes. Sally Sparrow is hot! I love the fact the whole episode was centred around Sally. I love the way it puts Doctor Who into an every day setting. The general public see the Doctor as an urban legend. It is a Brilliant episode which is totally character and story driven with no big CGI SFX.

I haven't watched Doctor Who for ages, but I heard people going on and on and ON about this episode, Blink. Then I noticed it was on BBC Three tonight, and I was bored so I thought I'd watch it... What a great episode! The faces on those angels were horrible and I liked the whole time travel element. It was so good I even searched through the forum for threads about it, and arrived here

I knew Sally looked familiar, the actress was in My Boy Jack. She was great, they should make her a companion, I might start watching again if they did

Okay.. I'll take the bait as I'm genuinely I'm surprised to see anyone put it on a par with garbage like Boom Town.

But since I did bite, which stories would you consider "special"?

“Populist Drama Of The Year, incidentally, is a different category altogether, and that award goes to the Blink episode of Doctor Who, simultaneously the best piece of sci-fi AND horror the BBC has produced in a decade.”

I saw it again recently for the second time and understood it much better, but the first time around i was with other people and drifting in and out which is why i didnt really know what was what most of the time!

The 3 episode run that ended with Blink (the two parter Family of Bloody preceding) saved the entire series 3 for me, which was pretty crap all round, especially the risible Master episodes which were embarassing.

Moffat is a fantastic writer who knows what the show is about. You get the impression he was a real fan as a kid, unlke RTD who just doesn't know how to write plausible sci-fi.

I tend to agree with Brooker that Blink was one of the best pieces of popular drama the BBC has done for eons. It didn't insult your intelligence like nearly every RTD episode does.
