Finding Out Your Number?
I remember reading a while ago that there was a code you could enter in to your BT phone which would give you your number,
Does anyone know what this is? Thanks |

Ring a mobile from the landline?
They cant afford at the moment to have a land line due to the line rental etc and were just going to use a PAYG mobile phone, Yesterday he rang to say that there was a BT socket in the property and just out of interest could i bring a land line phone along to test it, I did so and was surprised to get a dialling tone I told him not to use it for making outgoing calls in case it causes problems of some kind but if i can find out the number he can get incoming calls from others who dont have a mobile and dont want to pay the high call rates from BT lines to mobiles like his Grandmother. |

it sounds like they have a stopped line in the premises. a dialtone will still be available and the 17070 will work, but they won't be able to dial out and people will not be able to dial in. they keep the dialtone active, cos it makes switching them back on a whole lot easier.

You could also try ringing a mobile from the landline and just not answering the mobile!

Point made.
![]() ![]() qpw just pointed out that you can call a mobile but not answer it, thus avoiding any possibility of causing a billing problem. What has the fact that OP won't be doing anything for a couple of days got to do with anything? |

I have the VM landline free as part of a bundle and only use it for incoming calls, saving £126 per year on BT.

Nope, you've lost me here.
qpw just pointed out that you can call a mobile but not answer it, thus avoiding any possibility of causing a billing problem. What has the fact that OP won't be doing anything for a couple of days got to do with anything? and the one quoted above your last post, The op does not want to ring to a mobile for any costs that might occur or any problems, It doesnt matter if there is going to be no problems or costs, The op asked the question and the answer has been given, Comming on here and asking for the relative information to find out the number of the line. The op also said that there will be no phone up there so there is no way any calls can be made. |

I dont think you understood the first time, The op said they had thought of ringing the mobile. Seen as the op said no calls will be made from the line just in case of the costs or other problems. It doesnt matter what reason they asked for the bt number to ring and it will tell you, this was also answered above.
It's not against the rules to suggest solving a problem in a way that differs from what was originally asked. Quote:

So how is he going to ring a BT number to get his number? You see, the problem I have with posts of the type you made is that they are not intended to be helpful. There's no way that "re-read the thread" is going to be any help to anyone. All it's likely to do is put off future posters in case they get some smart-arsed response when they are just trying to be helpful. |

I've found that number unreliable so I thought I'd just mention that provided you don't answer the mobile there won't be a problem.
