2 BT Vision Boxes
Hi everyone
I've got a BT Vision box, and although it has it's annoyances I really like it and think it can grow. Anyway, my query today is can I use a 2nd BT Vision box in conjunction with the 1st? My plan is to purchase a Homeplug so my BTV no. 2 can sit upstairs and connected to the Home Hub via the Homeplug. In addition, do you think I could then use my Setanta Sports card in either of these boxes giving my flexibility around the house? Your thoughts will be very much appreciated. Thanks

It appears that you can, with one or two issues: http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/cgi-b...num=1185193768

Thought I would give you all an update on the 2 Vision boxes...
Just installed a 2nd BTV box upstairs. So, now got the following:- BTV box in livingroom connected directly to the Home Hub. Working perfectly. BTV box in upstairs room connected via Homeplugs. Took a couple of soft resets, but all now working. On Demand working perfectly on both BTV boxes, but only 1 at a time. I also have Setanta - the card was originally installed downstairs, however I can take the card out and put it upstairs and it works prefectly (much to my wife's joy!). Recordings need connection to the Home Hub via the Homeplug, but I can live with that. Overall, looking good just now! Thought this info may be of use to some of you out there.

Sounds good.
I have a box for sale if anyone is interested. Going on ebay later today. Also you could use a Wireless bridge or some sort of access point instead of home plugs. tom |

The BB drives recordings, so I can only record the same things on both boxes. That's the downside.
However, I currently have never needed to record any more than 2 programmes at the same time, so what i do is record whatever the program is, then delete it from the box I don't need that recording on. |

Apparently you can schedule record two programmes and manually record another two using both boxes: http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/cgi-b...num=1185193768
Thanks for the reminder

Here is another scenario. Have you tried powering down one/both boxes? do they both boot up ok?

Update :
My original box has lost it's recording facility. When going to the menu there is no Recordings option. After many soft/full resets I called the Helpdesk, completed factory resets and still no joy. I'm now awaiting a callback to arrange a new box. The additional box still works fine though, with the recording facility working as it's supposed to. Do you think by having both boxes running together has caused this problem? Or is it just coincidence? |

The box that has lost the recording feature was connected to the telephone line - the box I added was not connected to the telephone line. Does that makeany difference?
I was unaware of your comments RE the clinet registration |

The pstn connection does have a function: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=647602
Have you tried using the phone book option to call a number with the PSTN lead unplugged from the V box? I use mine a lot and I do not have a pstn cable connected. and it works fine for me. I believe that BT will not be using the PSTN cord function for any purpose as proved by the new self install that uses the home plugs that only provides an ethernet connection. |

I think it is not a coincidence. The client ID of the V box is registered against your telephone line, attaching a 2nd box causes the original client id to be removed and replaced by the 2nd one. certain functions on both boxes will work ok. Only the V box that is currently registered will have full functionability
So with what you're saying here Speckledhen, does this mean 2 boxes will not work at all? Or have I possibly set the 2 boxes up wrongly or used them wrong? BTV Helpdesk are to arrange a new box, but I'm worried that if I set up the two boxes again the same issue will happen i.e. losing services/recording from one of the boxes? |

i was under the impression BT were not approving of 2 boxes being used, so i would say you are unlikley to solve it by replacing the box. although there will be plans for multi-room option in the near future. but i may of miss understood

Correct, 2 boxes at the moment will not work with all functions available on both boxes, maybe later introduced like sky multi room
