Do we REALLY need 6 episodes of Emmerdale a week?
This is getting ridiculous now. 5 was ENOUGH. In fact 5 was fine because we were used to it by now. I don't particualrly want to get used to just having one day WITHOUT Emmerdale being on, it's really not neccesary at all.
Is it a permanent thing? They probably say "they'll look at the ratings first", but it's a popular soap, so of COURSE ratings will still be quite high and thus they'll deduct from that that people wanted another episode a week. Which isn't strictly true because as it's a soap people will feel more compelled to watch it as opposed to actually WANTING it, if you get what I mean. I'm sure 99.9% of people were perfectly happy with just the 5... |

I think they should drop all soaps back to once a week, making an one hour episode and leaving it at that. There are far too many soaps on all of the time and tv companies should be more inventive about their programming.
I used to watch Emmerdale but having to tune in every day just gradually made me lose interest in it. I don't bother with any soaps now. |

Six nights a week FFS Emmie scriptwriters struggle as it is to fill five episodes with quality storylines. Emmie at the mo is dire, the Cain-Charidee-Chris-stupid brat Debbie is the only so-so storyline which is interesting O that and Zoe finding out that Scott is the daddy of Baby Jean....apart from the above mentioned the soap is defo in crap land, cut it back to three episodes a week, as it is there is not enough strong meaty characters to carry this soap 5 times aweek never mind 6 times.

I think you are all forgetting something here.
Well before Christmas Emmerdale started going out on Sunday nights, then at Xmas they took it off, in order to put all the other crap they usually put on at Xmas, and it is only recently that they have gone back to putting Emmie back on, on a Sunday night. SF |

I thought it was only shown on Sunday nights a couple of times before...this current run looks like it might stretch into something more permanent and I really hope not.

Agreed Drifter round Christmas and before Christmas time it was only shown a few times, lately over the past few weeks Sundays episodes seem a more regular thing...bad move by Granada TV, wonder if the makers of Emmie really want to go 6 times a week?

It must be such a strain for the actors to produce six episodes per week, plus the others may follow in its footsteps, Corrie, EastEnders...........

The current run of Sunday episodes is to end this evening (1/6/03) however ITV are pleased with the success of the Sunday episodes and are considering making it permanent.
I for one think that people will end up getting bored and fed up. I say lets restrict all soaps to a maximum 3 episodes a week. |

Well wherever I've looked I've seen nothing but negative comments about the whole thing...I damn well hope someone takes notice, like with the whole "filmic look" fiasco, and just leaves it at 5 nights a week.

Well five is a bit much, but I don't suppose they would lower it.

6 episodes is completely over the top, 5 is more than enough.
Emmerdale will just go the way Brookie did in 1998, deperate for new storys so they just come up with any old crap. I even think Corrie is coming off the rails a bit now, you only need to watch Monday night's double episode as the rest of the week is just arguments about what happened on Monday. |

Dropping the number of episodes for each soap to one 1 hour one each week would also enable the writers to explorer storylines more deeply than the current who's shagging who storylines all the soaps seem intent on following. |
