Can somebody please provide a link or explain the differences between the Sony LCD TV type numbers S T U V W D which do not seem to follow a logical sequence in price let alone specification.
And then we have 2000 25XX and 3000???

I have viewed the Sony website and am none the wiser, yes some are 1080p or 100Hz but apart fom this??

As a Sony LCD/Plasma certified service engineer - I don't have the slightest idea what the different numbers and letters mean!.

32D3000/32S3000 32U2000/32V2000 plus the 40" and bigger have "X" and "W".

Another thing I noticed was the 32S2510/30 nolonger shows up in the Official Product range.

Right,

Firstly, the first letters should be KDL- this signifies it's an LCD TV, this will then be followed by the screen size, 32, 40, 46, 26....

The letter then will be one of the following:

T = New base model - DVB, HD Ready, Basic Bravia Engine
U = As T but old model
V = Top of the range 720p set, DVB, HD, FULL BRAVIA ENGINE
S = As V but without Live Colour Creation (V,D,W,X)
D = New version of the V series
P = As T but exclusive to Sony Centre
W = 1080p equivelent of V series
G = Non-HD set, DVB, only available in 15"
X = Sony's flagship model, has everything...

The number that then follows this is the model number of the set, 3000 are the new models, 25xx the older ones.

All of the numbers should then be followed by a U, this signifies the TV is a UK model.

Thanks for that!

Only comment I would make though is that the V series etc. are 768 pixels resolution, not 720 - the sets are 1080i and 720p by scaling.

Yeah, the highest HD they can display is 720p though.

IE they're not 1080p...

Thanks very much for that. I think I now have a better understanding.

I noticed the 32" models don't come in "W" or "X" models, do you know if Sony intend to produce "FULL HD" 32" sets?

Many thanks for that - makes things a lot clearer - just to confirm -thus there will be no V3000? (ie as D series but without 100Hz?

No, not 1080, but they still display 768 pixels, for either 1080 or 720 - so it's wrong to call them 720 sets.

I have asked this previously - some time ago now. I've got a Bravia 32" bought in the UK and am now living in France. The digital tuner works ok on French TNT, apart from some strange symbols where the French language has accents, but does anyone on here know whether the analogue tuner is capable of being changed to Secam from Pal I? I can't remember the exact model number of my set (I'll look it up tomorrow if needed) but I'm sure I read somewhere that the facility may be in the installation menu.
I thought I'd have another go at asking seeing as there are quite a few Sony chaps reading the thread.
Any thought?
Tim

I have the sony KDL40S2510U TV, and when I checked this on the sony style website it states it has live colour creation. Is this so for the whole range or does it vary with screen size?

When you first plug the set in it asks you what country you are in, and what language you want. On the U series one I've just tried, these options are adjustable in the setup menu - have you tried setting it to France and French?.

It's a KDL S32a 12U.
I think you're correct - it does ask the country when you first switch on - the trouble was then I was in England.
I've had numerous looks around the menu and can't get back to the installtion part to set country.
I did have a brief look at a menu you get to by pressing a sequence of buttons on the remote - it took me to a place I was very unsure of and didn't want to mess around with.
Any help appreciated.

The older A series did have a completely different menu structure, i'd assume there's a factory reset option there.

Long time since i've seen one though!

Don't remember seeing a factory reset in the ordinary menu - it's been a while since I had a good look. I'll try to take another look tomorrow.

Don't go into anything other than the standard menus of the set.

Make sure you aren't on an AV input and have a look in the setup menu.

Also, don't these also have a different menu for digital and analogue?
