Two things happened to my phone service over the last few months. I was with Tiscali Broadband and I also took their Talk (free weekends) service until April when I cancelled the Broadband service. They did say at the time they would just cancel the broadband service, but looking at my latest BT bill, it looks as if my service has been transferred back to BT without warning.

That isn't as much of a problem, I was sick of Tiscali anyway.

My main problem is that after looking at my latest bill, there are a number of phone calls made which look suspicious. They are local calls to local towns (me and my mate who lives with me checked all the numbers we have and there are a few we don't recognise, and Google yields no results for) made at times where it wouldn't be possible for either of us to be at home (we both work during the day), connections made to Netgem for its dial-up Internet service when the set-top-box was physically disconnected from the phone line, national rate calls to three different debt collection companies working on behalf of catalogues (when we don't order from catalogues, nor are we in debt!), calls to mobile phones for two to three seconds to numbers we don't recognise and three calls in the space of an hour to a directory enquiries service (I wouldn't use those - I use the Internet to look for numbers free). The only thing that didn't get dialled was premium rate numbers!

Can anyone explain why or what I should do next? I haven't got a problem with it making me out of pocket because my BT bill is in credit, but the calls being made seem suspicious.

You should contact accounts and tell them , they will put a temp hold on the bill and if your certain you didn't make the calls they will investigate - normally though they will fob you off.

i agree with jon41, though it's very rare that people tap into other lines ( except in student halls of residence that is) one thing you could try is to pop home during the day, unplug your phone and ring your number and see if it's ringing anywhere else, or when you speak to faults/ accounts, unplug everything phones/sky boxes etc(obviously calling them from another line) and ask them to test your line, if it comes back CPE detected Bells, line test o.k then there is another phone connected to your circuit somewhere.

Please don't tell people to contact 'accounts'.

They, Credit Management to give them their proper name, don't deal with call disputes and it will just cause the OP to spend more time on the telephone when it is unrequired.

The OP needs to phone 150 for CS and tell them they have a call charge dispute. They can then highlight the calls and pass it off to the CSI team who will look into things.

Accounts on 150 are the people you call, states that on the bill it's self - they then suspend the bill and refer it to a back office who call you back within 14 days - I know what I'm talking about.

So do I, that's why I know that 'Accounts on 150' are not the people to call because accounts are Credit management and they do not work on 150!!!

It is Customer Service who log any disputes and refer them off to the Customer Service Investigations team.
