T-Mobile: Big Flext Changes August 15th

Went into work yesterday morning and had a briefing on some big changes for Flext which basically involve:

1) When it comes to upgrade not being able to upgrade unless you accept the new price plan changes.
2) Flext 12 month allowance decreases
3) Flext voicemail charges moving to 12p and NOT coming out of Flext allowance.
4) Minimum call charge of 1 min for all Flext tariffs
5) If you change your price plan: eg on the current Flext 25 you get £40, if you change your price plan to Flext 35 you wont get the £120 but only £90, so once you move off current PP you cant move back.

More to come

Working in retentions its not a good thing for us, but apparently its still "inline with all other networks".

A blatent attempt at clawing back the money they have lost from the recent roaming reductions and Flext on the whole.

Update:

Flext £25 down from £40.00 inclusive credit to £30.00
Flext £35 down from £120.00 inclusive credit to £90.00
Flext £50 down from £170 inclusive credit to £125.00

I dont get point Number 1... The 18 month contract im on is due to end in less than a year (Flext 20) and I bought it at Christmad and pay only £15 a month because of the offer... will this go up to £20 a month in a year when I upgrade?

This is all bad news I thought they'd make it more competitive not uncompetitive looks like their following Virgin Mobile now.

No you will remain on £5 direct discount for life, however you must agree to move to the new version of Flext 20 otherwise they wont allow you to upgrade.

Hi are these changes for people on the 12month Flext plans or both 18 and 12 month plans? Im on Flext 35, 18 month due to end this Dec. Im really not happy with these changes and will probably move to a different network if it all changes.

Thanks

Two things really:

1) I take it that all these changes are on new customers and upgrades only, and will not be imposed on existing customers?

2) These changes would certainly make me think twice about staying with T-Mobile when my contract ends. Whoever heard of voice mail not being included in inclusive minutes/allowance in this day and age!

Yeah when I read the title I thought it would push me more towards T-Mobile again but no its not just makes me more likely not to go with T-Mobile again.

1) New customers and upgrades from August 15th they will be imposed on existing customers when its your turn for upgrade, you must agree to go onto the new version of the price plan or you dont get your upgrade, in which case most people will cancel!

2) Totally right, I thought the same thing, silly really!

From a staff perspective, I really don't understand the reason for doing this, apart from MONEY! Its going to create more hassle really!

Hi

The allowance decreases only affect 12mnht, so 18mnth allowance still remain.

Voicemail and min call charges affect both commitment periods.

T Mobile are starting to really irritate me. I've always been with them, from when it was One 2 One, but I'm gonna seriously consider switching come next year. I only recently switched from the Relax 500 to the Flext 35 (12) and got my upgrade, but if this is what they're gonna do, then I may cancel next year, only thing that might stop me is the 50% line rental advantage plan discount, but Three seem fairly cheap!

OH has to renew in the next week, on Relax £16.50pcm bought online with 300 mins and 100 texts (18 month). Do you have any info on changes to that tariff and will T Mobile do a nice new phone upgrade? Would appreciate your views on the best deal T Mobile would agree to. If they are playing hardball will have to research other networks

Ihatemarmite, its really hard to say exactly what deals you can have, its all to do with the average of bills, payment history etc etc, always go to them and say "whats the most you can give me off a handset" this way you know where you stand.

Thanks for the reply. Im really not happy about the Voicemail thing, although I do get the 50% discount too on the advantage plan. I will definately review tariffs when I get to the end of my contract later this year.

These changes to smack of pure greed, especially reducing the allowances and charging for voicemail.

Flext must be very profitable to T-Mobile as it currently is so they need to be careful they dont lose a lot of long standing customers by being greedy.

To be fair, these tariff charges only effect 12 month contracts and the vast majority of flext customers are on 18 month deals.

I've never understanded the idiots at the top of these mobile network companys that say this. The idea is not to bring your self inline with other networks, but to be better than the rest so customers have a reason to choose you.

No no, when they're giving you something, it's "we stand out from the others".

When they're taking something away, then it's a case of "being in line with other networks"

Get him on 3, 20 quid get you 500mins and 100 texts and no messing, also will find a better signal on 3 too.

I am on flext 35 and no way will they get another contract out of me, calls dropping all over the place and poor customer services, add that to these changes = goodbye.

Like someone already said, why is voicemail not included in the mins ? minimum 1 min call usage !!!

They should be looking to attract people in not push them away.

What a sweeping statement!!

It's impossible to make such a claim as every area is different and operators signal strengths vary enourmously. T-Mobile along with Orange, Vodafone and 02 have the most established coverage in the UK. All of them have integrated 3G/GSM networks with no requirement for roaming.

T-Mobile's recent changes won't make much difference as they are simply doing what all the other operators have already done... making the 12 month option less attractive than a longer contract.

3 are no different and their handset deals have vast differences when you compare 12 and 18 month deals.

Best option is to check out the deals available in the High Street and keep your options open. www.mobdeal.com is a good site where you get clear comparisons of the total cost of contract deals.

Does the voicemail charges affect existing customers or is all these alterations for New and Upgrading only?

Well seeing as 3 have their own network and also have a seamless switchover to orange as a back up they are bound to be pretty damn good now arent they.

T-mobile has the worst signal of any network I have used apart from 3 in their first couple of years.
