Hey all,

I am thinking about purchasing a new LCD TV, working around a budget this seems to be a decent TV to suit my needs. I currently have an old 14inch TV which is badly needing replaced, so upon a quick look, this looks pretty decent.

It's the BUSH LCD19W016HD, seen here:

http://www.asda-electricals.co.uk/sh...19w016hd.html?

I have never seen one of these TV's, and am unable to find any reviews of it. If anyone can point me in the direction of a good review, or someone who has/had one of these TV's, please give me your opinions on it!

Thanks a lot

If you're looking at cheap prices all you get is a cheap set, both of those are just badges on cheap imports - probably from Turkey?.

Some of the cheap small sets that Nigel dismisses actually give very good pictures but how long for I dont know.

The main problem with this size of set is that very few have inbuilt freeview tuners which means you have use an STB with them which with the typical location of such small sets (e.g. Kitchen wall) is messy partly due to another power cord, scart lead, aerial feedthrough etc.

Anything without a freeview tuner is effectively obsolete in a few years.

Depends if you compare them with a decent make of set, they look really naff then!

I think with the cheaper sets you may as well get the cheapest model you can find, as they are all rebadges of much the same thing -- forget the brand name on the front.

As for Freeview, you can get DVB adaptors which fit around the back of the TV as oversized SCART plugs very cheaply, and this mitigates the lack of Freeview box on the cheap sets.

I've got a 'cheap' LG 22" TV/monitor recently and it cost £239 from Play.com

While the sound isn't great, the images are very good and no doubt better than any Bush/Vestel/Craptronic clone.

link

For a second Bedroom Tv and a PC monitor, it's very good and has scart, vga, hdmi, Svideo, component and composite inputs.

No they dont - I agree that at 26- 32"+ the difference is really marked but from what I've seen (and that is a lot!) there aint much difference if any between some "cheapies"and top brands at this size

I have seen very poor reports on the performance of these "scart" adapters and they aint so cheap wrt the TV we are talking about or other freeview stb's. They still need a power supply?

At this size even the not so cheap mainly lack a digital tuner! even the model quoted by 0rbitalzone only boasts an analogue tuner which will be totally redundundant and useless in just over 2 years round here. it is also over 30% more than the subject of the thread.

These TV's should come with a digital tuner "by law" now

Well all I can tell you is that I bought one from ebay, new, for £9 plus about a fiver postage. It's a standard Vestel system, and seems to work well enough. Yes it has an external brick but this is no huge headache.

Please supply ebay item no.

This is about five times less than the street price so you were lucky. I hope it works OK as the reports I saw some 6-8 months ago indicated that the sensitivity and functionality of these devices was to say the least pretty poor. I have recently learnt from my own experience that the difference in performance between Freeview STB's is nothing to do with price and/orapparent brand quality.
Even one Vestel brand works far better than the other and has totally different guts.

Almost all TV's do!, only the very cheap sets don't - and it's likely they won't last until the analogue shutdown!

Sadly this was a while back (more than 3 months ago) and ebay do not retain stuff older than that.

I was fortunate, I'm aware of that. It was one of these private sale things where the guy had bought it and then sold it on as he didn't want it, from another ebay seller. I think the usual selling price of these on ebay is still only around the £20 mark though.

Quality wise, I have a good aerial so that may have something to do with it, but it seems no better or worse than the Goodmans I have in another room (another Vestel clone, with the same software setup). It's not the last word in quality but it does the job.

Sorry Nigel I disagree it seems the majority of all SMALL sets dont have DVB-T tuners irrespective of price or brand.

Using Empire Direct as a I trust a median reference the cheapest freeview +/- 19" LCD is a Daewoo at £279 - for this size TV IMHO that aint cheap! Notably there are several panasonic/toshiba/samsung offerings at considerably less but without DVB-T. My argument is why have these TV's got analogue tuners at all??

Re Vestel clones:- The difference between my Alba and my (now defunct) Wharfedale and my sons Bush is stunning. I now have 2 Albas which cost me less than £20 each and are superb. This is mainly sensitivity but also ease of use/general functionality. The W'dale R/control also works on the Bush but the latter does not deliver like the Alba.

A friend who has the highly rated Sony STB could not receive one MUX reliably - loaned him one of my Albas - problem solved. (Btw he has a Sony DVDR DVB-T also - this is very good and performs better than Sony STB and is of similar sensitivity to Alba box!)

Another friend with a Humax PVR had similar problem but on different MUX - again loan of Alba stb solved reception problem.
