Is it worth an extra £125 ??
Comparing Sony's recently launched KDL-40D3000 to the earlier KDL-40W2000 !
Current 'best prices' show £834 for the D3000 and £962 for 40W2000 ... is around £125 worth paying to get the 'acclaimed' 40W2000 (I realise that there is a W3000 on its way, but that will be dearer for sure) ? So far as I can tell 24p, HDMI3 and 1600:1/8000:1 Screen Contast is perhaps to the cheaper model's advantage - but the display resolution of 1366x768 does not appear to compare well with the W2000's 1920x1080 ... or does that actually not matter? Has the screen 'physically' got more dots or not, or wot ? Oh yes! The D3000 has an Analogue Terrestial Tuner in addition to Digital, Digital TV Cable Tuner and 'Channel Skip'! I don't have Sky or Cable - Freeview will have to suffice! As a layman it's the display resolution that's got me 'foxed'! A 'plus', for me, is that the W2000 looks like it has a dark silverish black finish (though not seen one yet) ... jet (& piano) black might well be the fashion but I can quite frankly live without it! I'd very much welcome any advice or observations.

As suggested the W is full 1080 HD, the D is only 768 - personally I don't think the difference is worth the price premium. We've tried the sets side by side on the same HD box (not the D series, an older 768 set) and under those conditions there's a slight improvement with the full 1080 set. If they weren't side by side I doubt you would know which picture was which?.

Sony's site says it's black - 1stAudioVisual lists 2 models, the 'Dark Grey' version is cheaper than the 'Limited Edition Black' ... anyone know anything about this difference please? Incidently I understand that a suffix 'U' denotes UK, I wonder if some of these suppliers bring them in from elsewhere? |

About a 1 inch screen!
Trying to fathom out the why's and what-for's regarding the best LCD TV display ... as a starting point I would love to see all the CRT, SD, HD, 1080i, 1080p, 1336x768, 1920x1080 blah blah blah's each compared on a 1 sq inch sample photograph taken directly from the relevant screen!
Analogue, digital, Freeview, Sky, cable whatever, you name it ... how will the LCD picture actually look; then perhaps I'll move on to other things such as 24p input, digital amplifier etc etc etc! Sorry for the slight rant - am lost in a sea of LCD mud ...
