4th Generation iPod problem
aok
10-08-2007
I have a 4th generation iPod which is nearly 3 years old. Recently I have encountered a problem when trying to synchronise to iTunes. After placing iPod in docking station and waiting a short while I get a message which says my iPod maybe corrupt and do I wish to do a restore.

When I click yes to doing a restore and entering iTunes my iPod is not showing up in iTunes. I have read some instructions about doing a restore and my understanding is my iPod needs to be showing in iTunes for me to be able to do a restore.

I am in a catch 22 situation, my iPod needs to be restored because it is corrupt, iTunes needs to be able to read my iPod to do the restore, but because my iPod is corrupt iTunes can't read it....What do I do?

Has anyone else had this or a similar problem, and what can I do about it?

Many thanks in advance
Alan

Try hitting it against the desk. That usually revives the HD in these iPods. Or..Open it up and take out the HD wire, and then put it back in.

You are having a laff I take it... my iPod works from a listening point of view, I just can't update any new songs I have installed in iTunes. Your remedy does seem a little severe and extreme if you don't mind me saying, but thanks for replying anyway.

No. I've read that it works quite well. Its only for the clicking HD problem though. Can you reset the iPod by holding down the Menu and Select button?

No it doesn't allow me to reset iPod, when I do the reset procedure, it just switches iPod off.

Not that I'm aware of, where do I find diagnostic mode? is it on iPod or in iTunes

Its on the iPod. You hold down a certain button combination when it is resetting.

OK, so that counts that out as I can't reset.
