What happens at the end of contract?
Hi,
I am coming to the end of my 18 month contract with Vodafone. I've never had a pay monthly contract previously so I'm not sure what happens when the contract ends? Will Vodafone contact me to offer me a new contract or what happens? Also I'm not entirely sure which date it finishes on - the contract begin mid-April so I assume it is around October. What happens if I want to get a new contract with a different company - can I get it to start as soon as the old one finishes? Also can anyone recommend the best contract to get. I'm currently on £16 per month with 75 mins and 100 texts, but ideally I'd prefer more minutes (I don't mind how many texts) and to pay no more than I am currently (preferably less if possible). Also I want a decent new phone included for free. I don't mind which network it is with, I just want the best deal I can get. Sorry I just have no idea how this works !! Thanks for any help.

In my experience they don't contact you, they just keep on taking your money. I would phone them to ask when the contract expires, and when is the earliest date you can renew it. Then you can phone back at the right time and ask what deals they have (including a new phone). They will normally offer you something extra to stay with them. In the meantime you can either look for a new deal on line, or go to somewhere like Carphone Warehouse and see what they can offer. If you do change networks you'll need a porting code from Vodafone if you want to keep your number. I think it can take a few days to sort out, but your new network will give you a new number to use in the meantime.

You may be able to continue on your old contract which could be advantageous if it was good deal when you first signed up.
The trend seems to load new contracts with extras which pushes up the costs. Often your old contract will be a competitive package which is no longer available for the same price. For example instead of 75 minutes for £16 you may be offered 150 minutes for £25 which is a saving of £7 but if 75 minutes is all you need then it really costs you an extra £9. (Actual deal my vary). |

Only time I ever been contact by the network is nearing the end of the contract to give details on more deals (in an attempt to try and keep your business). If you stay with vodafone then you should be able to get an upgrade handset, and hopefully keep your current tarrif. However 3 network currently over £15 contract with better mins/texts than any of the other networks. Take a look at their website for details of the phones you can choose.
