Just thought i would put this up where both HD-DVD owners and Blu-ray owners can co-exist without the normal "my format is better than yours" azrgument,

Just a place where you can tell us what player you have and also what films you own in either format

I own on HD-DVD

Player-XBOX 360 HD-DVD ADDON
Films-
Mission Impossible 1,2,and 3
Batman Begins
Lethal Weapon
Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire
The Mummy
The Mummy Returns
Happy Feet

and on Blu-ray

Player-Sony Playstation 3
Films-
Superman Returns
Ice Age 2-The Meltdown
Casino Royale
The Pursuit Of Happiness
Pirates Of The Carribean-The Curse Of The Black Pearl

I love the both formats and they are happily living together on my DVD cupboard,As players go the Addon for XBOX 360 is good but is let down by the lack of a HDMI on the 360 itself(which is now finally being rectified on future Premium consoles)but the component does the job well enough, and the PS3 is a really good Blu-ray deck and has played pretty much everything i have thrown at it so far.

So that is what i own, what about the rest of you?,and remember this is a place to appreciating both formats so try to keep it friendly.

As far as I'm concerned, definitely yes.

I own a Samsung HD850 upscaling DVD player, which is pretty good. I have now also bought a Toshiba HD-EP10 player, which provides better upscaling of standard DVD's video output.

Most dramatic difference though is the very much better sound output to my Yamaha YSP800 that the EP10 provides with standard DVD's. I now hear detail that I couldn't with the HD850, (bass is awesome), and as you would expect, with HD discs it is better still.

The only slight downside I've found is that there is no direct equivalent to the Samsung's EZ view aspect/zoom function on the Toshiba, so some standard DVD's don't cover the full screen width.

Bear in mind that although HD-DVD is currently region free, the HD-DVD players in Europe will only play region 2 standard DVD's, (which is why I have kept the HD850 ).

Overall though I'm well impressed.

ceejbee.

Edit: Forgot to list the (few) HD discs I own:

Terminator 2 Judgement Day (delivery tomorrow)
The Fast And Furious: Tokyo Drift
The Bourne Identity
The Bourne Supremacy
Training Day
The Italian Job
Flags Of Our Fathers
Letters Fom Iwo Jima

I think the main question should be :How much improvement is there watching a dvd on a crt alongside an HD of the same film on an LCD or plasma.

We are aware of the poor SD quality on these tv's.

SO along with your console name I think you should mention what type of screen you have and what size.

42"LG Plasma much better on SD than the previous 28"CRT.
But then again you can't compare CRT sizes to plasmas.

Recently got The Fifth Element, Remastered version on Blu-ray, the quality, is just the best I have ever seen, definetly the best quality picture and sound wise, I've watched a few HD videos off the internet and trailers, etc, but the quality on this is just amazing.

I got the 360 add on -

Matrix 1, 2, 3
Hot Fuzz
Riddock
Serenity
Tokyo Drift
King Kong
Planet Earth
300
TMNT
Happy Gilmour
Last Samuria
Terminator 3

On pre order

Troy - directors cut
Face Off
Heroes S1

Interesting i have 7 warner films, 6 universal, 1 bbc (planet earth) but no paramount films yet. That will change as soon as they release some star trek content. I know that they have the original series coming out soon but i will pass on that and wait for the next generation onwards. The only paramount film i would probably buy is mission impossible 3.

Now i know that they are planning to release the Star Trek Films on HD-DVD,i would buy them as seperates as i would like to cherry pick the films i like, but i would guess they may release them as a set first.

Same here, but i can see them batching films together in a set, probably first 5 movies, then the next 5 movies. How many films is there

The main tv series that i am after is enterprise, it is the only one that i have never followed episode bt episode. I noticed the usa xbox marketplace had it from the start and was hoping for an early transfer, but we are still waiting:yawn:

Well there is
(OS Crew)
The Motion Picture
The Wrath Of Kahn
The Search For Spock
The Voyage Home
The Final Frontier
The Undiscovered Country

(Crossover NG & OS)
Generations

(Next Gen Crew)
First Contact
Insurrection
Nemesis

so that makes 10

the uk xbox marketplace is so far behind its ridiculous, although the same can be said for the UK Playstation Store on the ps3.

If the SD on your plasma is better than it was on your CRT then your CRT was either faulty or poor quality.

And thats forgetting the obvious drop in quality when moving from 28" to 42"

Its not that I dont believe you ,its just a fact that SD is better quality on a CRT because of the way plasma and LCD display it.

So if it is really better then your CRT would have not been up to scratch.

All digital tv pictures are poorer quality than dvd ,and plasma makes poor quality more visible

And adding 50% to the screen size wont help either.

But as you say ,if you think its better thats all that counts

what ever you reckon
I dont know what TVs you watch, but quality DVD's mpeg2 there is nothing poor about watching them on a Plasma.

& yep your right about one thing, its what I think & see is what counts.

Now could we please get back to the topic

You must have missed the dozens of threads with hundreds of posts across the forum with users asking why SD is so bad on flat panel sets.

Listen this has nothing to do with the actual thread, & yes I did miss that thread showing crappy LCD TV pictues, you try posting the same thing on the PLasma forum & see what responce you get, everyone who has seen DVDs on my screen has gone wow, now FO & please leave it alone.

Since HD-DVD came along perhaps

Even those with HD discs will still watch SD discs and the forum is full of posts from dissatisfied customers of SD on plasma /lcd.

However ,Kojack is correct and this thread is not the place to continue this discussion.

That is like saying Rugby and Football are both the same game, just because they have Football in their names, but you wouldnt get Man Utd arranging a friendly against Wigan Warriors.

DVD and HD-DVD are two totally different formats, the only reason the DVD in HD-DVD is there is for backwards compatibility and also so people would say "I trust DVD so i ll go for HD-DVD as people like familiarity
