I just seem to drink tons of the stuff, and it really can't be healthy. Actually, it's Diet Coke because I prefer the taste.

I've been trying to cut back recently by drinking squash instead, but I still end up automatically reaching for the bottle when I'm in the supermarket.

Also, does anyone else get annoyed that usually the only diet soft drink that pubs have is coke? What if I actually am trying to come off the stuff? Or maybe I just want to avoid the Caffiene?

I used to drink a crazy amount of coke about 3 years ago. The thing that got me to stop was realising how much weight I had put on and when my dentist advised that it wass wearing away tooth enamel. Not good.

The first day that I stopped it happened to be a day I was accompanying a friend to a passport office, I couldn't sit in the waiting area with out nodding off! Seriously, the first 2-3 days were hell!

BTW, I've only had about 3 or 4 glasses since, I've not enjoyed it,

The best thing you can do is go cold turkey. You will get headaches for a few days with caffeine withdrawal but it will pass eventually. Have lots of water in the meantime. After about 10-14 days if you tried to drink some Coke it will taste horrible.
I'm not totally convinced it is true but there is a lot of bad publicity about what the long term use of aspartame can do to you and I'm not willing to take the risk - google aspartame to see both sides of the story and make up your own mind but I tended to ignore anything from David Icke or the manufacturers as they both have their own agendas to push.

Neither did I.

However I must admit I did have a bit of a problem with coke a year or two in high school, when I sufffered depression.

Coke is pure rubbish. I have seen people (one at Uni) who often had a 2 litre botle of it most days, the guy at Uni was so unfit, but i think he was also a depressive, he would chainsmoke too. I never touch the stuff (sugar caffiene chemicals) if say I am in McD's and want a soft drink I will always go for a Fanta which I believe is not half as bad, on the whole though the "soft Drink " industry is full of junk

I used to drink Coke and Pepsi regularly, but I don't touch the stuff anymore.

The Diet versions are just as bad as they're pumped full of chemicals and sweeteners to make up for the lack of sugar.

I think it's true that the real dangers of drinking large amounts of soft drinks - particularly diet drinks isn't advertised much.

If you join weight watchers, you can drink as much diet coke as you like as it's (and all diet drinks) 0 points

I think the final realisation hit me last night when I got through i 2lt bottle in about an hour last night . To be honest a bottle in the evening is not uncommon, and I'll usually have had a 500ml bottle at lunchtime.

That, combined with 4 or 5 cups of coffee, has GOT to be screwing me up.

I think it's time to take Caffeine out of my life!

Lol. Maybe I should take up smoking so that I can give my hands something to do when I would otherwise have been drinking Coke

I love Coke. Used to go through about twelve to fifteen bottles a week (2ltr).

Not now though. It's all bottled water and Ribena.
