Does anybody know of a quad chordless phone pack which has a single shared phone book - the set I have allows each phone to have its own book but that is tedious!

To my Knowledge there is none, But what you can get are dect phones that have Sim card readers built in, so you could save all the numbers on a sim card, then just copy from on to the other

I have a BT freestyle 7250 with 2 extra hadnsets, there is a menu option to copy the directory from another handset.

I have 4 Panasonic cordless. You just update the phonebook on the master and copy the phonebook to the other phones. Works well and ensures all phones have the same numbers.
