Best PAYG
I am a complete novice about mobile phones but I require a PAYG for very occasional use probably once or twice a month.
What is the cheapest rate for phone calls? |

Probably Tesco Mobile or T-Mobile Everyone.
T-Mobile calls are 12p/min to all networks at all times and texts are 10p. Tesco calls are 15p/min but if you spend £10 a month the 'Extra' tariff offers calls at 10p/min. Plenty of phones to choose from for both of the above. |

T-Mobile increased the price of calls from 12p to 15p at the start of this month on the Everyone tariff.

I think Asda Mobile looks quite good - 16p a min for first 3 a day then 8p per minute. The thing I like most about it is they use the Vodafone network - the best network for performance in the UK, apparently.

I think a lot depnds on how much you use your phone and when. If you use your phone regularly at peak times then probably T Mobile, Tesco and Asda are good.
If, like me, you only make very infrequent brief calls during peak time, and most of your calls are off peak then Vodafone Anynet with stop the clock is very good. After 7.30 pm and at weekends you only pay 10p per minute for the first 3 minutes and then its free for up to 1 hour. thwerefore 30p per hour offpeak! However, at 30p per minute at peak times this is not so good for peak time calls. |
