Does A HDTV with built-in Freeview....
automatically upscale the picture to its optimum resolution?
I currently have a Panasonic PX600 and only watch tv via Freeview. I'm aware that freeview is not HD but was wondering if the set upscales the resolution to give it that HD look? |

Yes it will upscale the SD DTT broadcasts to the screens native resolution, if it did not you would have a small picture in the middle of the screen with huge black borders
![]() It will as you are aware not be HD, infact given that a lot of DTT channels are only 544*576 and broadcast at low bitrate the overall PQ will probably be worse than when it is shown on a CRT. The higher quality DTT channels will cope much better when being upscaled but broadcast SD is a compromise between bandwidth and cost and cost always wins

thanks for the reply. Having said that if a FTA HD Channel started on Freeview would my HD set show in HD resolution?
Or do I have to buy a HD STB? |

Or do I have to buy a HD STB? At this time you would need a HD STB. No current DTT tuner in a domestic TV in the UK or Freeview box (apart from a few hundred made for the HD trial) have the required HD decoders and outputs. |
