Sony KV28DX30 stopped working...

My KV28DX30 was working fine and then the picture went and now all I have is a high pitched whine. I have unplugged everything from it that is not essential - left in aerial and power. As soon as I press the on button on the front I just get the high pitched whine. The remote then does nothing. Clearly the fuse on the plug is working or I wouldn't get the whine when I switch it on.

It is out of warranty so I will need to pay for any repairs I guess. Anyone know the best way to go about this - via sony or local repair shop etc? I am in the Daventry area if anyone is local and knows someone good.
