Connecting Sony RDR HDX970 to Amp?

Hi,

I just got this HDD recorder, but I was surprised when I couldn’t find its optical digital output. I’ve had 2 DVD machines before this, and didn’t know there was another way to connect to an amp to get 5.1 sound out of it. Anyway, I’ve discovered the existence of a digital coaxial connection and bought a new cable.
My Pioneer amp has one of these connections, so I thought I was good to go. However, when I play a DVD (or anything from the hard drive) I only seem to be getting the sound from the Sky+ I have plugged in to the DVD recorder. So, even when the picture is playing Lord of the Rings, the sound is Sky News! I can’t see any obvious settings I need to change, so any help would be gratefully received!

Thanks!

F.

Presumably your Sky+ is connected to the amp via an optical cable?, have you not selected the coaxial input on the amp instead of the optical one?. It sounds more like an amp setting that a recorder one?.

No, since I got rid of Sky Movies I've not even the Sky+ box connected to the amp, using that connection for the Xbox 360.
Very odd!

Figured it out - I had to change what the DVD button on my amp was configured to. Not obvious, but I something that you can do from the remote.
Changed it to read the coaxial signal instead of the optical.
