Ok.
My cd player on my hi-hi.
when I play cd's brought from shops, they skip, badly, making it unlistenable.(not just new cds', older ones that Ive had for ages, 5 or 6 years or more even)
HOWEVER if I play cd's that Ive burned myself on my PC, no problem whatsoever!!.

anyone got an explanation?.

Hard to say really, could be a number of things..

(must admit that my initial response to your subject line was going to be "take it's rope away")

..I myself have had a few new cds seem to skip (on some of my players) I think the efforts to prevent copying may have something to do with it in some instances.

Do they play alright elsewhere? Is the problem specific to one player?

Check to make sure no sticky fingerprints are on the CD's... if so, wipe off the marks with a clean cloth... wipe from the outer edge towards the inner edge - NOT round and round...a huff of breath often helps remove muck...

Try a CD lens cleaner as this may help....

Otherwise maybe the CD player is starting to fail...

lol.

This is becoming more of a problem, especially with older CD players. It is a problem with the new copy protection which is a complete waste of time, not yet found one I can't defeat. The record companies would do better to invest the money spent on reducing prices and less people would copy.

Obitalzone has beaten me to my other suggestion.

as the problem occurs on old cd's as well I dont think its copy protection stuff. (The hi-fi is also old, got it in 1989).
This lens cleaning thing sound usefull. I presume I can buy one from somewhere?
Thanks all btw!!
