Nokia 3650 on Orange + Used with a Mac
DigitDemon

Firstly, has anyone got any further info on the release date for the 3650 on contract Orange? I've been told all along it was going to be May, but that's come and gone!

Also is anyone using a 3650 with a Mac? If so are you able to upload the .SIS update files that Nokia are offering, and what are the features/limitations of using it with a Mac?

Cheers.

I'm not too sure on this, not being a Mac user myself, but I think you can transfer files to and from the phone using standart Mac software and a bluetooth adaptor. There's a couple of Mac users on this forum who'd be happy to give you more info.

Nice one, thanks for the link. How do you find the phone, too big? I've currently got an old 8210, and I realise its a bit bigger than that, but is it manageable?

I switched from a 7210, which I think was about the same size as the 8210, and to be honest it isn't as big as you'd think. It's about the same size as the 3330, (just a little bit bigger), but the features more than make up for the size.

I'm using a 3650 on Orange with a Powerbook G4 OS X 10.2.6. Bought the phone sim-free six weeks ago and have had no problems with it. Works great for sending data remotely via HSCSD and bluetooth. The new iSync supports the 3650 and if you run software update on your mac you will see a new bluetooth software package which was released yesterday to accompany iSync.

The only annoying feature of the handset is that it does not indicate a voicemail message is waiting for retreival and I imagine this is why it has not appeared on the Orange network yet. The size is not a problem but a benefit of it is that reception is great compared to my older T68i

Guv'nor, thanks for the info, whats HSCSD??, probably obvious but brain not with it today. Also, are you able on orange to access a POP3 email account to check and read messages?

Do you use iCal etc. and does that sync with the info on the 3650?

Cheers.

HSCSD = high speed circuit switched data, which gives a guaranteed 28.8k upload and download connection unlike GPRS which is only 13k up and is shared with other users on the same cell. I use this to log into my email (pop3) on the road and send data.

Check out this link which may help you with the 3650 and a mac. Apparently it now works very well with iCal and you can use the.sis files now. Only one user had had problems so far
