The current number one
Am I the only one who just doesn't get it?
It's alright for a dance track, but really, who'd actually go and buy that?

Is she the same Robyn who had a hit with 'Show me Love' in the late 90's?

'With Every Heartbeat' is the new UK number 1! Robyn's collaboration with Kleerup entered the UK chart at number 5 last week on downloads alone, and now she has beaten both Timbaland and Kanye West to the top spot..... At the age of 13 she was discovered by Swedish pop singer Meja when singing a sad, self-written song about her parents’ divorce in a school workshop and was immediately signed to BMG. A debut album of R&B-influenced pop in 1995 saw her paired with future Britney-hitwrangler Max Martin, and the global success of the sweet, soulful single ‘Show Me Love’ in 1997 cemented Robyn as an international pop star.
Short answer = Yes

It's not my type of music but I do have to agree that it is very catchy. I wouldn't snub it if it came on, but I would most other number 1s

It's alright.. I don't see what the fuss is about and why people are saying it's amazing.

I'm surprised anyone even knows what the number one is anymore. You really have to go out of your way to find out these days. Shame really, the charts used to be an exciting thing but now I just don't think anyone cares too much.

It's a bit of a dull song. It doesn't really go anywhere. Just plods along at the same pace all the way though.

Infinitely preferable to Timbaland.

Can't stand the song. I have no idea how it did so well.

The song is okay. Not the best number 1 we've ever had, but not the worst either.

Even when songs were undeniably dreadful, I used to understand why and how they got to number one.
But I cannot ever remember a song like the one by Robyn getting to number one. It is definable by its total averageness. It's not awful, it's not great, but most significantly it is barely memorable. A decade ago, a song like this would have struggled to make the top 10 (getting to number 11 off the back of commercal radio airplay - remember those days? Are the unofficial charts still calculated like that?). But maybe the song by Robyn isn't alone. The recent song by Timbaland and half a dozen guest vocalists was also very much a run-of-the mill collaboration track. |
