New Government Legislation Might Increase Prices
Everything Goes
02-06-2003
Governments attempt to stamp out money laundering has taken a bizzare twist that might increase prices for Pay As You Go. The Government has decided that money put into Pay As You Go accounts could be used for Money Laundering! The Government wants all money paid into these accounts to be put into trust ie the Governments coffers! The mobile companies earn money on the interset. If this is taken away from them then surely prices will increase. Good old Government they really have taken these mugs for a ride not content with the billions it got from 3G they want more

Surely, this isn't about PAYG as such, it's about using phones as an electronic payment system. Would you rather have it that criminals are able to launder money?

Laundering Money via a Pay As You Go phone is a really stupid concept. Do you really think that is happening or going to happen? The same thing would apply to Contract phones at any rate since they can still use electronic payment. The only diffrence is you are paying in advance on pay as you go and the money goes into the phone companies bank account. Criminals prefer to set up business to launder money since they can launder money in larger quanties that way.
