she slapped him twice in TRB so it will be fun and good to see a character stand up to the Doctor and be on the good side.

couldn't agree more. if i have one critism of series 3, it was the constant rose/matha thing. made me mad everytime it came up.

anyway, back to this thread. i am one of the lucky few, i have only ever since a couple of episodes of the CT show. as such i really don't have much of an opnion on her. i thought she was a bit shouty in the RB & i hope that she is written to be a bit less noisey.

however, i really did like the abrasive nature of the character, reminded me of Tegan. i think it will be a real breath of fresh air having a character who will challenge the doctor rather than constantly following them looking doe eyed!

Anyone else think she'll call the Doctor by shouting and that's how he returns to her?

After all, at the end of the "Runaway Bride", he heard her from inside the TARDIS.

Just a thought.

She's a bit old for him isn't she? She must be nearly 40.

So who has been the oldest human companion previously - who isn't called Captain Jack Harkness

Since when has being the companion meant that you have to be of a similar or younger age?

Cath Tate is 39. David is 36. Three years difference. Many couples have that age difference between them. But yeah I get your point if you mean that its a change from the 20 something companions (Rose and Martha).

Surely the point is that they are NOT "a couple", they are NOT "dating"?

I wasn't implying that, but that's how they'll be seen by passers-by (in the show).

Catherine Tate all the way yet again!

I Love her so much!”

I agree she is a great actress and a really nice person we met her on the Doctor Who set filming the Agatha Christie episode on saturday she agreed to have her photo taken with my kids she looks great and what a fab dress she had on.

I don't think that is necessarily the case.

It's not necessarily the case, but it probably will happen at least once. It did with both Rose and Martha. Regardless, it's not important because (a) the age gap between them is miniscule really and (b) they're not a couple, and the audience knows that.

The alternative is that Doctor goes around deciding who gets to be a companion based on whether or not it will look believable that he is in a relationship with her (or him!).

..... even though there won't be (a reltionship), he will know that, the writers will know that and the audience will know that. Still, as long as it is patently clear to anyone who happens to come across the programme having never seen it before that the Doc and his assistant are about equal age for a relationship, that's all that matters

Of course! You wouldn't want the casual viewers trying to get their heads around a non-romantic relationship!

I thought Donna was really funny at Christmas. I like that they've chosen someone a bit older as a companion, I think they're perhaps trying to break out of the current "sexy young Doctor, sexy young sidekick" pairing to provide a smoother transition to the regeneration. I predict that we're going to get a slightly older Doctor next time.

according to RTD, a 2008 christmas special is already planned, i hope we get to see Donna in that too, maybe with a newly regenerated Doctor.

Because that is what the writers are doing. They are forgetting the fans and thinking of the income. I fear the quality of writing will go down hill. Before we now it we will be witnessing 'Sylvester McCoy' episodes again (The Liqourice Allsort bad guy was the best). I am really annoyed with the writers on this decision, the writers who say 'we have been big Doctor Who fans since we where young kids' are selling out. Don't get me wrong I don't hate Catherine Tate. I think she is a very funny comedian I just think it is pointless and wrong to cast her as an assistant. The writers are idiots. They could easily cast another unknown without loss to ratings (Freema was a good example).

I can argue allday with you guys about this but I will watch Doctor Who with Catherine Tate and I will think some episodes will be legendery. However Catherine Tate would not be my first choice ”

Its the Producers you need to point the finger at if anything. Who have you got the biggest issue against, If its Donna then yeah its down to the writers, but if it is Catherine tate then I doubt most of them had any choice.

Freema is not a good example for anything...
She was mediocre at best. Even over the top personailty is better than none.

Also the income is directly linked to the fans, If the fans are not happy, then ratings will drop, Less merchandise will be sold. Im sure Catherine will become a fan favourite.

'The Runaway Bride' had viewing figures of 9.35Million. Only 3 episodes have had more viewers than that. Now tell me that Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) is going to be upopular.
(not pointing this at you temperare, just all the Donna haters)

I think everyone should give her a chance to prove herself.
Im glad she is not going to be in the christmas episode, as she is doing a C T Show special for christmas and would probably receive more stick than ever...

If nothing else she will probably try harder than either BP or FA in this role. She is trying to show she is more than a comediene, that she is also a fine actress. Even if you dislike CT or the character of Donna, I think the least she deserves is a chance to prove herself (A chance is more than 1 episode)

I for one will be supporting her all the way. Its better to start off with a postive attitude towards these things and sometimes end up disappointed than starting off with a negative one, waiting to be impressed..

Also Im not the greatest at Spelling or Grammar. So please dont point this out, the spell check thing is not working either

I'm sick of all these CT loving threads. Give her a chance, for gods sake! she might be truly appalling.

So many people so quick to judge on the basis of one episode!

I bet those who say they won't be watching (any other programme on at the same time as Dr Who) will eat their words when CT arrives on the scene.

All these CT Loving threads?
This is the only proper one I have seen on here! If you dont like the thread then dont read its context. Its pretty obvious what its about before you click to read!!

I agree so many people are quick to judge on the basis of one episode. Which is why its important you give her a chance!! How can you make definate opinions based on this. As a CT supporter im willing to say:she could be truly awful and Im prepared for that possibility. How many CT haters are willing to say, she could be truly fantastic and im prepared for that possibility?

I had this thought, Maybe Jeremy Kyle could become the next Doctor. It would work well between him and Donna as they can both shout really loud at one another and would be a great match for each other.

In the spirit of peace and brotherhood I'm trying to find something positive to say about La Tate...
(Don't say she's got big jugs... Don't say she's got big jugs...)

Erm, She's got big jugs!

Oh B*gger!
