What a load of crap! It's the OP's fault, not Vodafone.

Indeed I used to change my number very often and never lost touch with anyone either. Im sure everyone else who changes their number is the same otherwise whats the point of having a phone in the first place.

I'd bet that everyone who was had this number and gave the OP their number would have changed theirs quick sharp so they couldn't be contacted!

Lol ok lets look at what we knkow:
1. Had the number for 10 years
2. Everyone the OP knows has it
3. Hasn't used it in at least 6 months
4. Doesn't like to admit he's wrong

Whilst i agree the OP is at fault i think maybe we've made that point well enough now.

The DS boards are a friendly place remember.

A quite spectacular flouting of Godwin's Law. You lose.

I bought a loaf of bread from Tesco some time back. Did not use it for 3 weeks and it went mouldy, so I could not eat it. Guess what, Tesco had the cheek not to take it back and give me a new loaf! They said something about a 'use by date'.

Has anyone got the e-mail address of Richard Branson? I know he's not the boss of Vodafone or Tesco, but he normally gets the blame on a lot of these forums......

Is this standard practice for all networks?”

Ring this number. Explain the situation. Stay calm. Dont whatever you do start telling them what a crap company they run - you are asking them to do you a favour.

The number isnt "lost" its simply given a different status and its not a big deal to reactivate it....although you would need to buy a new sim card.

Occasionally extenuating circumstances (eg an allergic reaction to paracetamol put you in a coma for 6 months) can help sway the right people to do the right thing, but do your research if you are going to use something similar

Alternatively you could just rant on here and not achieve anything.

I thought the OP had already phoned them. Anyway if a ported number is released, doesn't it revert to the original network? So there would be no way for Vodafone to 'give' him back his number.

He ported from o2 to vodafone, so its now vodafones number and stays in their database until its reassigned/activated.

When a sim is not used/topped up the number is suspended. Well actually there are a few stages, but the final stage needs someone with a bit more access to re-activate the number and normal cs cant do that.

Number I provided is not standard cs number.

If it has been reassigned cant he just call the number and offer the new user of the number some money to give it up and get a PAC code for it so the OP can take it back.

They have a standard wait period before its reassigned, I think its 9 months.

the reason they will not give the number back to you is because any ol person could then just call up and say "i own the number 078888888888 and it has been cancelled, can you actiate it again for me"

Thats not the reason at all.

1) The account will still be in his name/or if he didnt register they can ask him security questions about numbers frequently called etc to confirm he is the owner.

2) The reason they wont give it back is because normal cs cant.

Alot of mis-information spread about on this forum.

To the OP: You can get your number back its possible...you just have to go about it the right way.
