False itunes purchases on account
CAMERA OBSCURA

Hi.

I have just noticed looking at my bank account that over the last 2 days £153 worth of songs have been purchased on itunes on my account, obviously this hasn't been by myself. Does anyone know how/where I can get in contact with with itunes as I cannot find any relevant info.

Many thanks.

There is a button marked 'Report A Problem' on your purchase history page- I presume that's the first step. Also, get in touch with your Credit Card company today & get your card stopped.

Yes, go to the card issuing bank or credit card company and report the fraud, they should cancel your current card and issue a replacement card, if you're lucky they may refund your money, some card companies do.

Do nothing and you may find more than a couple of hundred go missing very soon, luckily many banks are wise to this kind of fraud and often block unusual transactions.

Yup this recently happened to me - the credit card company stopped me making a mobile phone top up as there had been suspicious activity of a failed £1.00 purchase on itunes. The transaction failed as they didn't have all the details but they just do things like this as a tester then go mad when they find they have the right details.

It's good to know the credit card companys are getting a bit better at stuff like this now, i suppose they have to now though as it could cost them millions otherwise!

OP - CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD ASAP!!

Thanks for the replies.

Off down to the bank today, also sent an email to Itunes.

All the purchases were made on Itunes in one day, and not shown in my 'purchased folder' which leads me to think it is my card and not my itunes account that has been hacked.

Took me a while to find how to get in touch with itunes though, just waiting to hear back from them.

Thanks again.

To be on the safe side you should change the password for your iTunes account.

Thanks Moisie. Have done that already plus all other sites I buy from.

I have cancelled my card and they are sending me a new one plus some forms to reclaim the money, though I haven't heard from itunes themselves yet.

The strange thing is there were no other transactions made apart from in Itunes so it will be interesting to hear what they have to say, it might be a simple error on their behalf and not 'card fraud' after all. I download the odd song from Itunes now and again, I'd much rather buy the actual CD, so my eyes popped out to see £153 worth in one day, though what they are I dont know because they arent in my purchase menu so it is that that makes me think it is card fraud. Still it could have been a lot lot worse comapared to some peoples horror storys.

Just a waiting game now.

And fair play to them, the bank were very helpful and quick even if they did try to flog me a personal loan at the same time
