Roaming Charges

I have been sending texts to a friend in America who has a UK mobile number and have been charged 10p for each one (my standard rate). If I was to place a call would I pay the same rates as in the UK, and would we both be charged. I ask this as I recieved a call from Spain on a UK number to my mobile and was not charged.

For future use how would I know the call is from abroad if its coming from a uk number.

Thanks for any advice.

Firstly, if you called your friend in America on their UK number you would be charged your standard UK rate, BUT your friend would be charged for roaming costs, which can be very expensive, just to recieve your call.

Secondly, you never pay to recieve a call when you are in the UK with a UK sim card, the person in Spain would have been charged roaming charges (which again can be expensive) on their UK number to call you.

Lastly, there is no way of knowing where in the World somewhere is calling from. Although that doesn't really matter to you, as you won't be charged to recieve it if you are in the UK, but you will be charged if you were abroad at the time (due to roaming charges)

I hope that helps a little bit!
