P1i 3G calls
Trying to make a 3G call on my O2 Sony P1i phone but to no avail.
Got the setttings installed and a new 3G sim card deliverted from O2. But when trying to do one it does has "a dead tone sound" coming from the phone in the ear piece. I am in a 3G area - got the little blue signal on the phone and the person was/is sat next to me too. he on Orange. Any ideas? As O2 are as unhelpful as always |

Can you clarify what happens when you try to make a Video Call? What does it say on-screen and what can you hear?

Nothing is shown on the screen apart from a green status bar that moves and eventually says "network busy"
The noise is like "nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn" as though its a dead tone |

I think you have your answer, the network is busy either locally or trying to interconnect with Orange.

You would think that - that was my first thought!
But its ALL the time regardless of time or place. Even tried calling a 3 phone and another O2 phone and the same issue. Same issue when people call me! |

I'm a bit concerned that you are slowly drip-feeding what is happening. In the first post it was A call to A person who was sat next to you, now it turn out you meant happening all the time. First nothing was happening, then you revealed the on-screen message. There are plenty of people on here who will help, but you do need to tell us exactly what is happening.
My advice is to try a known working SIM which has previously made video calls (perhaps from a friend). This will eliminate a problem with your account. You could also contact wherever you got your phone, about a firmware upgrade, new handsets often have bugs which early adopters have to iron out. |

I haven't tried calling many people - my partner is on Orange and has a 3 business mobile. Plus my sister has one. So tried all three: 1 orange: when next to each other or different parts of the city 1 three: when in different parts of the city 1 O2: when in different parts of the country When the orange phone tried calling the o2 today it worked. So tried 02 to orange straight away and nothing: just gives a dead type fo call. Looked on Sony E's site but nothing mentioned about a new firmware upgrade. Got o2 finally to send a new phone out so will see if that resolves it. Just wondered if anyone else had issues |

It does sound like either a problem with the phone, or with lack of capacity in your local area. Hope the new phone works better.

I would recommend just letting o2 know step by step everything u've said here. Most probably just setting problem in P1i, had same thing with my o2 K800i last September then one call to Carphone Warehouse o2 department and all fixed.

Call o2, with dates and times that you are trying to video call. They should run a trace and will tell you why the calls are not going through (I doubt customer service can do this but their technical teams should).
Although I don't work for o2 (I work for another network), I can run a trace and find out the reason for calls failing - I am assuming they will be able to do this to. |

I'm waiting for a new phone to arrive - hopefully get in the next day or so. They 'forgot' to order one when I spoke a few weeks back. So will give that one a go and see how that goes. Quote:

Got the new phone and I was able to make a 3G call to a person on Three.
However, if I try someone on orange, I get "network busy" but if they try me, they connect straight away. Very confused
