Sony 26U2000 "Bravia" - True 1080i
SunshineVati

Advice appreciated please - I just bought a Sony 26U2000 - is it able to full display 1080i output from my sky HD box, or is there any transformation of the signal?

Also - it is a "Bravia" TV - but I'm not sure it has a true Bravia engine? - and if not, is the engineI have less capable of top-class imaging?

I have to say I'm very satisfied with the 26U2000

No, it's a 768 pixel screen, like most LCD's and Plasma's.

The U series is the cheapest and bottom of the Sony range, it uses a Samsung LCD rather than the higher spec S-LCD ones used in the more expensive models.

That's all that matters really, it might be the bottom end of the Bravia range, but it's still a pretty decent TV, and far better than the cheap ones about.

Conversly to what you said I thought all Sonys top end models used S-PVA LCD's from the Sony/Samsung joint venture LCD plant in Korea? Both Sony and Samsung source panels for their cheaper models from third parties usually a Taiwanese concern.

Also I do not believe S-PVA kicks in until screen size is 32" or above

I see Woolies are selling the KDL32U2001U for £399

Anyone know what the difference is between the

KDL32U2001U and the KDL32U2000U

Many thanks

Sorry, but I've never heard of it, it might just be a specially badged version? - I'll try and check if it exists as a Sony model on Monday (because I'm nosey!).

Only the U series used the cheaper Samsung panel, all the dearer sets used S-LCD panels (not S-PVA). This, of course, only applies to the sets since the S-LCD factory was set up, before that they used panels from various sources.

However, some of the newer sets are now using non-S-LCD panels as well, probably the replacement range for the U series?.

to see what difference the engine you have vs standard, hold down the menu button for like20-30 seconds, it will activate the demo mode for retail with a split screen.

to turn off, turn off tv or reverse menu button action

I've checked on Sony Assist (the Sony service database), and there's no such model listed - so I would assume that it's just a badged KDL32U2000 specially for Woolies?.

I notice on their website it says they aren't in stock, and suggests alternatives.

Thanks for that Nigel . . I had a quick look on the Sony site too and couldn't find that reference either.....as you say , probably a "special " batch for Woolies.

As far as ordering is concerned , they seem to have sold out within hours of the offer.......apparently they had 600....and they've all gone.

I did manage to place an order myself although it isn't fully confirmed yet

I guess I'll just have to wait and see what turns up !

I wonder is the warranty is 'bought out' by Woolies as well?, the model number isn't accepted by the Sony warranty system, so the Sony approved service network won't be able to do warranty repairs on them.

Mystery solved , TV received yesterday...............it is in fact a KDL32U2000U

Must have been a typo on the Woolworths site.

Excellent quality....and covered by Sony's European Gtee scheme ( also has free 12 months accidental damage cover )

Don't forget though, your legal rights are against Woolworth's, not against Sony.

Good price for the set though, there's obviously something funny going on there!.
