I got a text from 02 , at the end of September they will be charging 20p per min for 0845 and 0870 numbers , at the moment these are charged as part of the inclusive bundle.
So any calls to these types of numbers are currently just taken from your monthly allowance

It was the main reason I chose the 02 contract

Does this change mean they are breaching / changing their contract significantly and mean you can cancel a contract without penalties ?

Comments please

Not if they give one full months warning of a change in teh T&Cs .

If you mainly use o2 for 0845 and 0870 then you can argue the contract is unfair to you and ask to be released from the contract at the end of sept BECAUSE of the change to the T&Cs .

If they refuse to release you on the 30/09/07 then go to Ofcom who will get you off the hook .

O2 is the last of the main networks to do this, (so I have been told)

Even BT are changing their rules

"From August, BT is altering the way it charges for calls to mobile phones, 0845 and 0870 numbers. These calls will move from BT’s current daytime, evening and weekend rates to just daytime (06:00 to 18:00) and evening (18:00 to 06:00) rates - which will apply even at weekends." http://www.easier.com/view/Finance/H...le-131078.html
all I can say is use http://www.saynoto0870.com and see if the company you want is on there

You should remember that these numbers are being phased out, to be replaced with a new range of numbers beginning 03. By design, these should be included in inclusive minutes on all networks.

anymore details ?

I am wondering if the 03 numbers going to be "outside" the inclusive minutes ?

Have a look on the Ofcom website. Many 08 numbers are being retired. The point of 03 numbers is that they are included. Indeed, I have already seen ads that have small print saying, "applies to 01/02/03 numbers and calls to uk mobiles"

03 numbers make an appearance in 2008 , yet 02 make a charging change in Sept 2007 , possibly 6 months before its required

Surely a fair way to introduce it would be to have some cross over period

And people locked into contracts are hit in the pocket for months

All the other operators did this some time ago, new O2 contracts have charged for 08 numbers for some time now. You could cancel your contract but you wont get 08 numbers included in any other contract.

But that doen't make it ok for 02 to do it , because every other operator does

Sorry but this is incorrect

they do have to give you a months notice BUT during that months notice you should be able to cancel the contract regardless of the age of the agreement as they have made changes which will effect the customer financially.

I have heard stories of them checking to see if you have used 0870 numbers but even if you haven't you should still be allowed to cancel.

I disagree that you need to "mainly use o2 for 0845 and 0870 " for this to apply.

Fine , so to clarify you must exit the contract DURING the 5 week notice period up to the end of september not after it.

I still assert that you have no concrete excuse to so do unless you usually call these numbers so if you wanna exit an o2 contract make some calls to 0870 and 0845 numbers pronto to cover yo ass

send an email to their customer care department .

I think that's probably a good idea....perhaps you could also say that you know you will need to ring more 0870 numbers in the future (if moving house, for example) and you were aware of this when you took out the contract and feel it is unfair for the contract to continue with these changes (which may be unlikely, but will they call you a liar?)

it is the law for these companies to allow you to leave under these circumstances - but they also pay people to prevent you to do so.

If they are being such a hassle regarding 'oh, you haven't used any of these numbers so it isn't a significant disadavantage to you,' then just make a few 0870/0844/0845 calls every day for the next 2-3 days, then ring again.

And quote point 11.5.3, and on the basis of this point, you wish to cancel.

Thanks , after I made contact through the 02 website

I have received this Email reply from 02 today re my problem

[QUOTE = 02 E mail ]

Hello ******,

Thanks for emailing us to find out why the 0845 and 0870 numbers not added in the inclusive allowances.
This is because the 0845/70 and other special numbers are now excluded from the inclusive allowances by all UK networks, as per the recent change of tariff plans. Were the last network to change the tariff plans for these number. Your tariff will include free calls made to numbers beginning with 01, 02, and 03.
This is the reason you'll not be able to call 0845 and 0870 numbers free of charge. Youre eligible to cancel your contract without any termination charge incurred on your account. Please reply to this email, if you wish to cancel your account and well help you further.
We're sorry for any inconvenience this will cause you.

Maybe not the poster says they got their bill dropped to £15 and got an extra 250 mins and 250 texts, I think you only get 200 mins in total on simplicity , don't you ?

I personally use my 02 to the max ringing 0845 , 0870 numbers as well as 01 and 02 numbers as part of my inclusive minutes it means I get no phone useage on my landline bill ( Bt line needed for BB)
