They haven't even made it difficult for me.

Hello John,

Thanks for emailing us about the charges for the calls made to non-geographic numbers and I'm sorry that you want to cancel due to this reason.

It isn't possible to disconnect your Pay Monthly account with immediate effect, as we require 30 days notice.

I've set your account to be disconnected on 17 October 2007, which includes your 30 days notice.

A final bill will be sent within 7 to 14 days of the disconnection date above, which will include any charges or credit due on your account.

If you've any questions, please contact us on 08706 007 102. We're available Monday to Saturday between 08:00am and 08:00pm and on Sunday between 10:00am and 6:00pm. Calls are charged at the rate 20p per minute from an O2 Pay Monthly mobile.

I hope I've explained this clearly for you. If there's anything else we can do for you, please reply to this email.

I can handle that. Final bill. No problem. Suits me down to a T.

Seems a pretty standard response , I got one similar , however when I requested a PUK by phone I got pestered by retentions , they offered the £20 per month simplicity tariff saving £5 on my monthly charge for the same mins and texts

I have decided to cancel and get a brand new phone and a new 12 month contract with a free gift ( Ds Lite) all for £24 per month ( 600 mins , 500 txts )

It does require redemptions but with DAP I have had no problem in doing so in the past or currently with family members

Phones to cancel last week, no problems, they accepted they were in breach of contract and said it would be cancelled on the 28th sep when the new t+c started. I phoned them yesterday to request my PAC code and they offered me a Nokia N95 on a 12 month contract for nothing. The deal im on they dont do anymore (270 mins, 500 texts, £30 month) and i couldnt get an equivalent deal so i got another brand new phone (only upgraded a couple of months ago) and i dont have to change anything!!! Very Happy!!

Ive been with o2 for over 18 months now and i was on the Online 500 Talker ,double mins and 150 text.0800,0870 and 0845 were always free for me, now after 18 months i decided to change to a different tarriff and found out that i was getting charged for those calls now, i have now gone back to my old tarriff and started a new contract for another 18months, the reason for going back to this tarriff was because of this, otherwise i could have stayed with a 12 month contract and £10 discount on the new tarriff, i will be really pissed if this happens to me

There is no "if"...it IS happening.....apparently they are no longer ALLOWED to offer the numbers as inclusive because none of their competitors do.....So they told me anyway.

sounds like you need to get on the phone to them and see what they can do....they may be able to offer you a discount which makes up for the changes.

Good luck , you may need it or not depending if they will let you cancel your old tariff / new contract

You must ring them ASAP as this is time critical to cancel

As the new contracts clearly state only 01 , 02 and 03 numbers are inclusive in the monthly allowance as you are already been charged for these types of numbers , it seems you are on the revised charging tariff , us with older contracts only start paying after the 28th Sept

It seems 03 numbers are going to replace certain 08 numbers for simplification

I guess it all depends how quickly 03 numbers are rolled out by businesses

I am thinking only those with contracts taking out before a certain date will qualify

This is the current wording for new contracts

Inclusive minutes

Inclusive minutes can be used for calls to standard UK landlines (starting 01, 02 or 03) and all UK network mobiles. It excludes calls to non-geographic numbers (starting 05, 08), 07744 and 07755 numbers and premium rate (09) numbers.
So it is quite specific

Good luck

I finally emailed o2 to cancel my contract, sent the email yesterday received a response to day saying that my phone will be disconnected on the 22nd October.
In the email to o2 I wrote this:-
Hi,
I recently received a text message saying that from the 28th of September I will be charged for 0870, 0845 numbers etc, I feel therefore feel that my contract has been changed to a disadvantage to me as frequently use 0845 numbers and will be using them more in the coming weeks, Therefore I would like to cancel my contract with you.
Many Thanks

Ouch

I cancelled mine , I was only a couple of months into the new contract

I got a text and a letter mid August time

I received my final bill a couple of days ago , it was for £180 and should have been for around £15

A 30 minute phone call to CS to get it sorted and my DD is cancelled just in case
